Tonya Presley | 1181 comments We did it again: Jane, Lynn, Ruth, Maya, Sheila, Spoko and I were present.

Two recent movies were mentioned--
Elinor the Great - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZ6l2...
One Battle After Another - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=feOQF...
(I think Jane preferred the first?)
Crazy as it sounds, talk of shoulder replacement (reverse) led to some levity around elbows that bend the other way and such, reminding me of a long ago scifi movie that I could not name in the moment--
The Arrival - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akYf7...
(Link is not the trailer, it is a scene with the knee replacement (reverse). Available on Hoopla.)

Little bit of book talk--
My Name Is Iris (not recommended)
These Memories Do Not Belong to Us
Still Life
The Sunset Years of Agnes Sharp

Thoughts about marking the passage of time with digital v round clockfaces; also a round clockface with roman numerals is the classiest of all choices!

Robo and junk calls, cell v landline. Woe are we!

Birds, bird feeders, bird app (Merlin)

That is all I have!

Jane | 2250 comments Thanks, Tonya. I always write down titles, but I seldom get to read them. So many books, so little time!

Lyn Dahlstrom | 1344 comments I somehow missed this one, so thanks for the recap.

I love the Merlin bird app. It's free to download from Cornell University. When you hear birds all around, you can turn it on and it identifies them, gives info and pictures. It works great in North America.

I was recently camping on some extensive land in Australia, where there is a lovely torrent of bird calls each morning. I tried Merlin then, and though the app heard the calls, it didn't identify any, saying that only 14% of birds in the Peak Crossing area were identified by the app. Even I could note some kookaburras!

Lynn | 2306 comments Yeah, I love Merlin at home, but when I travel to the Caribbean it doesn't recognize a lot of the birds there.

Ann D | 3813 comments Camping in Australia,Lyn! That sounds like a real adventure. Good on ya!

Tonya Presley | 1181 comments Sounds like fun, Lyn!

Chances are your camping trip is an assist to Merlin enlarging the database. Altho, I can't recall ever having an update to mine. Hmm.

I had hoped somebody else would have seen that 1996 movie and remember it better than me. No doubt everything I said about it could be wrong. My Hoopla account is messed up, so I hope to rewatch it again this week.
