Mr. Impossible (Carsington Brothers, #2) by Loretta Chase
Mr. Impossible– Loretta Chase

Synopsis:

Impossible
Rupert Carsington, fourth son of the Earl of Hargate, is his aristocratic family's favorite disaster. He is irresistibly handsome, shockingly masculine, and irretrievably reckless, and wherever he goes, trouble follows. Still, Rupert's never met an entanglement—emotional or otherwise—he couldn't escape. Until now.

Outrageous
Now he's in Egypt, stranded in the depths of Cairo's most infamous prison, and his only way out is to accept a beautiful widow's dangerous proposal. Scholar Daphne Pembroke wants him to rescue her brother, who's been kidnapped by a rival seeking a fabled treasure. Their partnership is strictly business: She'll provide the brains, he the brawn. Simple enough, in theory.

Inevitable
Blame it on the sun or the blazing desert heat, but as tensions flare, and inhibitions melt, the most disciplined of women and the most reckless of men are about to clash in the most impossibly irresistible way.

Jan (jan130) | 2723 comments Hi mods. The heading for this book is listed in our group as October 2025. I was going to start reading it, but now I think it's meant for November?

Jan (jan130) | 2723 comments No worries. Thanks for the fix, Susan.

I've decided to reread the first book in the series anyway (Miss Wonderful) to get back in the Carsingtons zone, before I tackle Mr Impossible again. For those who haven't read them, Mr Impossible can easily stand alone though.

Jan (jan130) | 2723 comments Welp, I started rereading the Carsingtons series back in October, and I got hooked so I kept on going and reread the first four, including Mr Impossible. 😂😂😂 It's a lovely series!

I really enjoyed Mr Impossible. It's a fun book with a lovely romance. I liked the different setting in Egypt, instead of the usual Regency ballrooms etc.

Rupert at first appears to be a bit of a goof. Daphne is a clever bluestocking, and she seriously underestimates him. But readers very soon see that he's no fool. For his own reasons, he lets Daphne keep right on thinking he's an idiot (if a useful one). But of course she does eventually wake up to him. I really liked the development of their romance.

The Widow theme worked well. Daphne did not have a good experience in her first marriage to a dry, older man. More bits about her first marriage are revealed throughout the book, and readers can see how much more suited she and Rupert are.

It was a fast-moving and at times quite funny book, that kept me interested all the way through. What would happen next??? LOL. I hope other group members read and enjoy the book.

I rarely reread books - but I might make an exception for this one. I love a male hero who seems all brawn and no brain - but really.is no fool.
