Apologies for the delay in opening the thread, but we are here now!
Please introduce yourselves with as much or as little information as you would like to give. Please also include your Wheel shelf. I have grabbed those I could find, but it would be reassuring to know I got the correct shelves.

I am from the UK, but I will be in Norway for about half of this challenge. For those that don't know, I plan to move to Norway full time eventually with my now husband, but visas are annoying and will take time.
My schedule is a bit all over the place at the minute and when I am in the UK, I work nights so I'll typically be around more when most of Europe is asleep.
We appear to have a mixed group from around the world from what I can see! Some names are familiar to me while others are new, but I look forward to getting to know you all!
Bookwise, I'll read anything for a task and for points. But I generally prefer books with a bit of adventure or mystery to them. I have a TBR of over 1,100 so I would like to try and get some of them read during this challenge. I'm under no illusion that my TBR will actually go down, but if I can at least shift some of my older books I will consider that a win.
Please feel free to ask questions if you are unsure of anything. There are quite a few Mini's from the get go which can be overwhelming for newer players.
The most important thing is to have fun!!

If we have anyone who prefers to do a completion post here, that is absolutely fine.
Some people are planners while others are mood readers. You do not have to add books in advance to the tracking sheet, but if you are going to read for a specific task it would be helpful for us to know so that people can focus on unclaimed tasks. Communication is key.
The Minis are optional, but with so many running at once, it is likely your book will fit in somewhere. We get extra points for completing Mini tasks. The ones already announced will run for the whole duration of the challenge so there is no rush to complete any specific one first.
Unfortunately our first word doesn't have many letters so we may have some difficulty finding some of the letters we need. We will need two U's per spelling so do keep an eye out for those U's!

As far as the challenges go i have an Ursula K Le Guin waiting on me so there's at least 1 U! Can't wait to get started and I look forward to seeing what everyone else is going to be reading.

My name is Shan, 46, wife, mom of 4 (20-30), grandma of 4 (3-6), and aunt to 4 (2-17). We live in Louisiana.
I will read almost anything, but I do prefer romance, the steamier the better, but it doesn't have to be as long as the story is good. I'm currently trying to fit in Halloween-esq books that are not my usual paranormal romance, but those work as well.
I have a U book available for the challenge as well.

I created my shelf last night. I think it is 25_wheel or 25wheel.
I love reading most genres and kind of alternate between planning and being a mood reader.

I’m a team challenge enthusiast so I couldn’t even tell you what # Wheels this is for me. I love it! I do not particularly love our first word 🤣 I had a book come out like two weeks ago that I’ve been looking forward to that has a big page count and I have been saving it to start until after this challenge starts — and I was super excited at first because the pronunciation guide had a U name. And I was very quickly disappointed to figure out that it was a guide for the whole series not just this book and that character actually does not appear in the book (did a kindle search for the name and it only showed up on the pronunciation guide…*sigh*).
I read mostly romance! But I’m pretty open to most subgenres within romance (contemporary, historical, paranormal, romantasy, etc). I will read outside of these for things like BOM sometimes or if we need a specific task filled but I try not to push it too much as I’m a mood reader and that can push me into a slump.
I created a shelf but I’m currently on my phone so I can’t link it here — but once I’m on a computer in the morning I will add it!

I'm so glad our thread is open, as I will be on a ship tomorrow and not have good internet access (it's only for a day, so will be back on Saturday morning). My name is Camilla, I'm 58, living on the southwestern coast of Finland. Married, two adult daughters. I've played Wheel several times, once as a co-captain, but I've taken a couple years' break from all team challenges and preferred being just a team member this time. Nice to see many familiar faces as well as new ones in our team!
I read mostly fantasy, science fiction, horror, thrillers, and non-fiction. Not too fond of romance, but occasionally that as well, especially if it fits a challenge. I always have several books ongoing, both paper, e- and audiobooks. I have about 10,000 books on my TBR shelf, about half of which I have as a kindle edition, so I can usually pretty easily find something to fit a specific task. I have a book from the library that I need to read and return pretty soon, Blanka, Itämeren tytär by Ulla Rask, so it works for U as well as at least B and R. I've also got In a Holidaze lined up, such a vibrant green cover, and works at least for I.
Captains: do we have any strategy for the mini challenges? Do we want to try them all or concentrate on the easier ones?
Oh, here's the link to my Wheel shelf:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

I've changed the settings on the spreadsheet so you won't have to request access now. Sorry about that, I thought I had done that already. I'm not usually the one to make a tracking sheet so I didn't notice it was view only.

Mini's 4, 5 and 7 can't be repeated so it could be a strategy that we work on those first to get them out of the way as it has been hinted that we may get more Minis later (although I don't know for sure).
But Mini's 1 and 2 are arguably easier so it could be that we try and get as many repeats of them as we can.
We also have to take into consideration that we don't have the luxury of lots of letters in Round 1. So I think the best thing might be to just see what we find in Round 1 and then go from there.
I am open to any ideas or suggestions of strategy.

I've been going through the previous BOMs and found quite a lot on my TBR that I could read so I plan to start tackling Mini 7 from the beginning as that seems the hardest to me.
*edit* I found enough that I have access to to make our first square! I don't want to hog it all so if anyone finds a book that fits instead or wants to read one of the ones in the square then do let me know and we'll swap!

I am a combination of a mood reader and a planner. I generally read what catches my fancy but have to plan my next 2-3 books because libraries...
I have a few long books that I want to read/reread but will plan them according to what tasks they work for. Ulysses is one of them so yay for the U!

I live in the Netherlands with my partner. I really like reading with a cosy drink (normally tea, but could easily be a black coffee or even a hot chocolate depending on how I am feeling). I have recently been reading quite a lot of historical fiction, but in general, I read a mix of genres if my bookcases are anything to go by haha. I also take part in a family book club, so one of my books for round 1 will be Over My Dead Body, my aunt's choice. :)

I'm Tati, and I'm in Brazil. I'm a single mum to a corgi who believes he has the coffers of the royal family at his disposal. I'm very much a mood reader, and I won't touch horror books. I've been reading mostly fantasy and romance, with some non-fiction sprinkled in here and there.
ETA: my shelf is https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

Thanks for granting access to the spreadsheet! It looks like the books tab is locked so I can't add my books yet, but later, do you want us to only edit it the Books/BOM tabs? (It looks like the mini tabs use a formula so I'm assuming those will stay locked and we'll leave those alone)

Oops, looks like I accidentally locked the books tab. That wasn't supposed to happen! It is open again now. Thank you for pointing it out!
Yes, once you put the letter/mini references in, the related tab should automatically populate (if I've done all the formulas correct)

ETA: is there a minimum percentage of color that the color item has to be?

Yeah notifications are being annoying again at the moment. Hopefully they fix them again soon.

Honestly, I haven't really used Tineye much so I don't know about the purple thing, but to me violet is a shade of purple. If you aren't sure, post it here and the captains will make an executive decision.
For an item, it doesn't specify any percentage of colour, so just try to make sure that the colour is obvious. Again, check with us if you aren't sure.

Same!! I keep being like “someone has to have said something” and coming back to find it unchecked again!!

I have done a lot of challenges- so like you all, I'm addicted.
I am from Vermont - 2 grown daughters, dogs, cats. Shan-A, I like how you work in 4s! That's fun :)
I'll read most anything. I gravitate towards non-fiction, sci-fi and historical fiction, and I really like alternative history books where the bad guys of history meet their own! That sometimes bridges on horror - which I'm trying to squeeze in for October.
My wheels shelf is up (I'm embarrassed it wasn't up earlier... )

I'm assuming 50%

Are you sure? I thought 50% was for the cover color and assumed that an item would be a smaller percentage. If 50% is for the item, then what is the cover color percentage?

I believe Melissa may have read what you were asking wrong (I did the same thing too at first). I'll ask the mods for clarification. I'm assuming you've found a book that has an item on that is two or more colours?
Enjoy your cruise! Even just a one day one sounds lovely!!

Captains may move them around later to where they are best needed so do keep all options there even after they have been assigned.

Remember books for this challenge cannot be started until after the countdown reaches zero.
Countdown here: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...

Yes! I read it wrong!

So the response was:
"If the item has more than one colour, you can't exactly say that there is an item with X colour on the cover, since the item in question isn't only one colour. See where I'm going with this? ;-)
General rule of thumb: if you have to guess if it is (enough of) that colour, then chances are you can't use it. Same goes everything else relating to colours. If you're questioning it, then it is a no."
So, the item should only be one colour (different shades of that colour would count if there is shadowing for example). If you are not sure, ask here and the captains will make a decision.

Having a bit of a wonky wifi connection here at sea.

Does everyone know what their first book will be?
I think I'm going to begin with Clockwork Angel as it has been on my TBR a long time.

I think I am going to start with Clown in a Cornfield, I recently got the trilogy, and I am excited to read the first one. I have been holding off on starting it until the beginning of the challenge, as I am already in the middle of two books that won't count towards the challenge.

I will be starting with the books I've entered on the tracking sheet.

I'm going to start with The Primal of Blood and Bone and probably also A Love Letter to Whiskey because I think I'll need little breaks from the first since it's so long (and emotionally heavy from what I hear!)
