We're into October, but let's take a quick look back at our September reads. Did you find some good ones? Maybe even great ones? Recommend them to us!

For myself, hmm. I finally got around to reading The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate by Jacqueline Kelly, in which a burgeoning naturalist learns about the scientific method from her grandfather despite the fact that such pursuits aren't ladylike (historical, set in Texas). Then I got the hankering for some action, so I treated myself to the latest City Spies book, London Calling. James Ponti never fails to delivery. Highly recommend that series. And then I grabbed up Max in the House of Spies: A Tale of World War II by Adam Gidwitz, which is both historical & inclined to action (training montage-style). A Jewish boy shipped to Great Britain to keep him safe from the Nazis is fostered by a family with connections to spies. The part that makes it extra fun is the paranormal twist. While leaving his homeland, he unwittingly carries off a couple of mischief-makers that nobody else can see. They ride on his shoulders and give advice & asides. I need to get ahold of the sequel!

Well? How about you?!

Angela Sandoval | 18 comments Two of my September reads that I would highly recommend are Blood in the Water, an exciting MG murder mystery that will keep you guessing until the end, and The Curse of Eelgrass Bog, a suspenseful fantasy-mystery with twists and turns plus an adventure through an eerie magical world.
