Magda (magdazine) | 3 comments When I search for my book title it only shows one result. The second edition is only shown when you click on the title and look at 'more editions' below.' With different covers and content how can I get both editions to appear in a search by title? Tx

Mesembryanthemum | 196 comments A Goodreads search shows only the "default" cover in the results. That's the cover of the edition that the most GR users have "shelved" (rated/reviewed/marked as want-to-read). Alas, this is a catch-22, because GR shows the first edition by default, so that's the one that most people will shelve/rate/review.

However, I believe that the author can choose which cover to display by default. I don't know how - I'm not an author - but see this post in the helpful "THE Group for Authors!" group:

Good luck!

Tawnya | 4082 comments Searching for the specific ISBN will show the cover most times. However, there are books that have had numerous cover changes over the years. In that case, the most recent edition to use the ISBN is what should come up.

The policy was changed years ago. It used to be the ISBN stayed on the original cover. I read a thread where the librarians at the time were told they needn't worry about updating the entire system, but rather on a case-by-case basis. I want to say that was a thread from 2018. There was no way people were going to be able to go through millions of editions, even with it being open-sourced.

An author I read changed his covers 4 bloody times in under 2 years! There is another author whose profile I spent seven months cleaning up. I am keeping it clean. This year he released a new book for his series, the first since 2017. He released new covers for all of his books except for the ones geared towards kids. One of the ISBNs has had five covers.

What I am saying is that covers can be messy. Be thankful there are only two editions. The classics have over 10,000 editions!

You should be able to see the specific cover that you want displayed on your shelf though.
