Understanding the Word. -The Bible involves reading, meditating on, and applying its teachings to your life through consistent spiritual practice, prayer and a humble, receptive heart. This takes me to a time when I was around 13 or 14 years old. My dad (Hemp) who was mostly a quiet man, loved sitting in his chair by the window. He was either reading his western books or the Bible. I came in from the outside and noticed he was reading his Bible and I started talking about the Bible like I wrote it. He looked over his eyeglasses and said "if you're going to quote the Bible, quote it right." and he went right back to reading. We must be careful when we quote the scriptures not to twist them to say what we are saying. So, these scriptures remind me to be careful of what comes out of my mouth regarding God's Word. -
Do not add to or subtract from these commands I am giving you. Just obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you. -Deuteronomy 4:2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. -Romans 12:2 Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth. -2 Timothy 2:15 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. -2 Timothy 3:16 But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. -James 1:22
