Meet the Real D. H. Lawrence in This ‘Autobiographical Portrait’

Nigel Patten’s latest book, Return to Rananim: An autobiographical portrait of D. H. Lawrence based on his works and letters, relates the famous author’s everyday life, from his birth in 1885 in the English Midlands, to his death in 1930 in the South of France. This is the story of a short-lived life that had a large impact on the literary world one century ago.

David Herbert Lawrence, better known as D. H. Lawrence, accomplished a lot in his short 44 years of life. The Englishman was a novelist (Sons and Lovers and Women in Love), as well as an acclaimed playwright, critic, short story writer, essayist, and travel writer. He also penned poetry and was a painter. His extensive works depicted the modernization of his age, including the burgeoning rise of industrialization and sexuality in literature.

This book is a novel based on the factual account of Lawrence’s experiences, voyages, friendships, and literary pursuits as presented in his own words.

Return to Rananim takes a journey back to visit the celebrities of his time. Meet Aldous Huxley, Bertrand Russell, Ezra Pound, H. G. Wells, and Somerset Maugham. In the 20 years before his death, Lawrence travelled the world searching for Rananim, his own utopia.

“D. H. Lawrence comes alive in this powerful portrait of the famed writer that has been drawn by another British author writing 100 years later. If you enjoy classic literature, you’ll love Return to Rananim,” said Lynn Eddy, VP of Acquisitions, Strategic Book Publishing.
