Chulu | 2 comments Hello, so I’ve been reading Le Morte d’Arthur, and according to Wikipedia, Mallory abridges some of it: “Other aspects of Malory's writing style include his abrupt abridging of much of the source material, especially in the early parts concerning Arthur's backstory and his rise to power (preferring the later adventures of the knights)…”

So does anyone know what all is abridged, and some good sources for filling in the gaps?

The "source" is the Vulgate and post-vulgate! they are extremely long but absolutely amazing! anonymous authors from France.

Okay, thanks! I just discovered the Vulgate cycle myself. I reckon I should finish Malory first before embarking on that, right?

I did prefer taking that route (Malory first!) simply because Malory is much shorter :) the Vulgate is a whole line journey!! (English translation might be tricky to find as easily too, but there is a Norris lacy edition out there)
