October lends itself seasonal readings. This time we had a pre-readathon mysteries challenge. For next year I am considering thrillers or favorite popular character reads. Some like to read haunted stories too. What do you like to read for October?

Michelle (mich2689) | 38 comments For October, I like to read any book with a dark atmosphere: horror, dark fantasy, thrillers etc.

A book I have listed to read for a bingo card at my classics group: The Secret History of Wonder Woman by Jill Lepore. If I do not read it this year, Inwill read it for an October read next year or maybe the year after.

Jen Scott | 50 comments One of my favorite genres is horror, so I make sure to read as many as I can in October! I always like to try and read one classic horror each year as well.

Also a huge fan of paranormal romance, which feels perfect for October, and is nice to break up all the horror books :)

Vicki Willis | 585 comments Yep! A perfect month for Horror. I try to pick something off the GRCA list for October.

I read solely horror in October. I normally read horror during the complete year, but add a thriller or fantasy book from time to time.

Claudia Hauter | 24 comments I always read horror and Halloween-themed books during October. I've discovered fantastic writers and books this way, including the Icelandic author Yrsa Sigurðardóttir.

Sonya it took me until late in my 50s to read Dracula. When the reader is ready, the book will still be there!

Next year I will read The Lottery and Other Stories by Shirley Jackson along with maybe another scary story by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. (I have just read Transformation. Eerie.)
