Welcome to our Nov/Dec 25 buddy read of Knots and Crosses Knots and Crosses (Inspector Rebus, #1) by Ian Rankin as we embark on a buddy read of a 'new' series for us - the Inspector Rebus series by Ian Rankin The first book in the Inspector Rebus series was first published in 1987.

Once John Rebus was a Para, served in the elite SAS. Now he's an Edinburgh policeman who spends time evading his memories, missing promotion opportunities, and right now ignoring a series of crank letters. But as the murders go on happening right under his nose, Rebus cannot ignore the presence of a serial killer stalking the city streets any longer. He isn't the only detective working the case, but he is the only one with all the pieces to the puzzle and those letters keep on coming.

Please feel free to post spoilers in this thread.

I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did. I found the mystery and the characters fascinating. I will miss the slimy reporter as he goes off to London. Too much smoking and drinking of course. Now that his back story is told, I hope it doesn't play such a large part in the following books.

So, after three buddy reads involving the torture and murder of young girls, I am looking forward to the relative sanity of Peter Shandy next month. Ready for a laugh.

Yes, unfortunately, the buddy reads this month seemed to have a similar theme.

message 4: by Susan in NC (new) - added it

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 5166 comments With the Epstein filth dominating news here in USA, really not in the mood for these reads. I read the Airth last month, if I’d waited longer I’d probably skip that, as well. Sorry!

Fair enough, Susan. I tend to separate fiction from real life. I don't mind a bit of grit or uncomfortable storylines. Fiction is never as bad as reality as the world shows us again and again.
