The Procrastinators Book Club discussion

Welcome to the Where the Library Hides Buddy Read Discussion thread! This thread officially opens on November 6th and anyone can join at any time. Please keep in mind that spoilers are allowed in this thread but only up to the group's current reading place. Do not spoil the book if you've read further than the group. Any extra days can be used to catch up!

Each day we will be reading by chapters or page numbers. Page numbers are an approximation based on the hardcover or paperback that is the default on Goodreads. The suggested Buddy Read discussion schedule is as follows:

Week of 11/06
6th: Prologue-chapter 6
7th: Chapters 7-11
8th: Chapters 12-16
9th: Chapters 17-22

through end of chapter 6: I am so thankful that this basically picks up right where we left off. I am still unsure about Whit and his intentions. I also sort of forgot about Mr. Fincastle so that is kind of crazy what he did! The biggest thing though - Isadora!!!!

up to the end of chapter 6 Hardddddd agree. I truly did not see the whole Isadora thing, but in retrospect, Isadora was never really a British name so it was there all along. I definitely don't trust her though. I do think that Whit loves Inez, but he definitely has some ulterior motives, unfortunately I think we're going to see a betrayal in the future.

through end of chapter 11: I am pretty sure I do not trust anyone at this point. So many shady things happening and people lying - I can only imagine where things are going from here.

Chapter 1 - 7
@Sophie @Brianna Absolutely agree. It’s true what you mentioned about Isadora not being a British name, didn’t occur to me during the first book though. I do as well believe that Whit loves Inez. It seems though that his family is out of money due to his father’s gambling and he desperately is trying to help her out, so she doesn’t get married by force. Makes me believe he married Inez for her money, although he obviously loves her. There will be an epic rundown where he‘ll have to pick a side…

@Brianna Honestly it feels the same to me. There’s no trust in any one, not Isadora, not Whit, and I don’t know why but I also still don’t trust tio Ricardo.

Chapter 8 - 16
Alright I caught up. And to be honest, I‘ll probably finish this today. No way I can wait, I need to know if Isadora really is helping Lourdes, thus betraying Inez. The second book lost a bit of its pace.

Also sadly there’s less about tombs exploration and Egyptian history. I feel this book focuses more on the family dynamics and relationships. Inez and Isadora, Whit and his family, as well as Whit and Inez. And maybe Tio Ricardo and Inez aunt?

I still really enjoy it. And I need to finally know who can be trusted. Yet, so far I enjoyed book one a little bit more.

Chapter 17 - 22

Ughhh…. Why did it have to be the obvious way. Ok, Whit was right. Isadora was betraying Inez. I wish it wouldn’t have been that way. Poor Inez how many times can you get hurt by the people you love and still keep on believing in the good. I don’t know… she sort of seems naive, but on the other hand it’s beautiful how she doesn’t loose trust.

through end of chapter 16: It seems like we may finally be making progress - finding the gate, the leader of the gate, and first glimpse of mom since book 1. I am hoping we get back to looking for the parchment/treasure hunting type vibe - this installment doesn't really have that going on currently.

@Brianna You’re right in terms of the hunting vibe. It sort of became less important for the storyline.

Chapter 23 - The End

Like WHAT!!! Here’s the plot twist I was waiting for… Sterling being Inez father. WOW! I totally didn’t see that coming, once again, I‘m left surprised. As well as Inez‘s mother turning on her lover and killing him. At least one of her parents stood up for her in the end, after so many deceptions.

Still it sort of didn’t make all that much sense. The whole book Lourdes was putting her daughter in danger, putting her lover and her other daughter before Inez and in the End she turned against the person she was favoring all along. It just didn’t seem like a logical move. I guess a mothers love won here.

Same for Inez fathers transformation. He was portrayed as the nicest, most loyal, good and educated person throughout book one and most part of book two. And then he just turned a villain. It wasn’t 100% believable. Did I still live the storyline of course.


To sum it up. The second installment doesn’t live up to the first. It was a 3.5 star until the revelation at the End. Then it turned into a 4 star. The story wasn’t as nicely paced as the first one. With a little bit less action happening.

The treasure hunting vibe - which made the first installment so great - wasn’t that much present here, as the whole storyline was more about the development and relationships between the characters and who is betraying who. Although I enjoyed how they were hunting down the leader of the gate.

through end of chapter 22: I didn't want to believe it but kinda knew that Isadora was not being entirely truthful. It'll be interesting to see where everything ends up since we are so close to the end. I feel like there are still quite a few things that need to be tied up and I hope they are not rushed/left unaddressed by the end of this.

@Brianna Yeah… I didn’t want to believe it either. It sort of seemed too obvious to be true. Honestly it sort of annoyed me 🙈.

through the end (I also read ahead - oops lol) (view spoiler)[I am SHOCKED by the twist with her father - that is the last thing I was expecting. I feel like it was rushed and genuinely did not make much sense. Even after his "explanation" to Inez, it didn't quite feel logical. I feel so bad for Inez - she essentially lost her entire family in some shape/fashion and had to create her own. I did find it annoying (to a degree) that so many characters essentially died - were they all necessary? I liked the first installment more but will read other books by this author. (hide spoiler)]

@Brianna You summed it up perfectly. I absolutely agree.
(view spoiler)[Sane thought about the deaths. I wish they wouldn’t have happened and also believe they weren’t necessary. The end with her father as well as the behavior of her mother didn’t make sense.
