A book set in Michigan or written by an author from Michigan.

A dark horse contender, in the form of the US's 26th state!! Too bad I already read the Anna Pigeon mystery set in Michigan ...

Here is an old Listopia: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Here is OUR Listopia: A book set in Michigan or written by an author from Michigan

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 1780 comments I thought Michigan was a bit random. Didn't realise US states were numbered. All I can think of are Emily Henry books and I don't think she has anything coming next year.

Laura Ruth Loomis | 346 comments Marge Piercy is from Michigan. I think I've read all her novels, will have to see if she has a poetry book I haven't gotten to. Unless my other challenge includes "reread of an old favorite" or similar, in which case it's Woman on the Edge of Time: A Novel.

Bonus: her husband Ira Wood is an author.

Agatha Donkar Lund (brandnewkindof) | 14 comments Viola Shipman often sets her books in Michigan! And there are two Nevada Barr Anna Pigeon mysteries set at Isle Royale NP - A Superior Death and Winter Study.

It's the order that they joined the union. We started with the original 13 on the east coast that were the Colonies, and then gradually more states were added over the years as the USA expanded.

Kenya Starflight | 1023 comments If you don't mind reading middle-grade fiction, Katherine Applegate (author of The One and Only Ivan) was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan! I'd say that counts.

Sasha Wolf (sashajwolf) | 256 comments Angeline Boulley is from Michigan and is an enrolled member of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians. Her novel Firekeeper’s Daughter is set in that community and seems like it has some semi-autobiographical elements.

Tania | 692 comments Books I recommend:
The Odds of Loving Grover Cleveland by Rebekah Crane
Golden Sovereign by Dorothy Lyons (also works for horse prompt)
Genesis Begins Again by Alicia D. Williams

On my TBR:

I love Jim C Hines! He and John Scalzi did a hilarious "pose-off" where they (two middle-aged men) tried to imitate the ridiculous physical positions of women on science fiction book covers. The images are harder to find on Google these days, but so worth the effort. I hope their bodies have recovered.

Yay! Unbound is on my current TBR list.

I have not yet read her third book, do you think it's also set in Michigan?

ETA: duh! I just realized the prompt includes "author from Michigan" so it doesnt' really matter where her story is set, it fits.

message 20: by Kenya (new)

Kenya Starflight | 1023 comments Popping up again to say I'm currently reading The Gales of November: The Untold Story of the Edmund Fitzgerald. It's set around the Great Lakes in the US, but parts of it do take place in Michigan.

Karen Witzler (kewitzler) | 149 comments Looking through the Carol Shields Prize Longlist and I found this Michigan author, currently a professor at Wayne State in Detroit: V. Efua Prince - her longlisted book is Kin: Practically True Stories - which is I understand, short stories in conversation with the Jean Toomer classic Cane.
