A sapphic comic

I usually don't read 'comics', so this will be a challenge for me... I trust everyone will contribute to the Listopia to help!! 😁

Listopia: A sapphic comic

message 2: by Dubhease (new)

Dubhease | 774 comments I assume graphic novels are included in comics?

message 3: by Brandon (new)

Brandon Harbeke | 812 comments Mystique and Destiny are married in the last decade or so of X-Men comics, so I will probably use one of those issues.

message 4: by Laura Ruth (new)

Laura Ruth Loomis | 489 comments Anything by Alison Bechdel works. She's best known for Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic and a 90s-era lesbian soap opera called Dykes to Watch Out For.

message 5: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 2019 comments Huh, somehow my brain read this as "a sapphic comedy", I shall need to rethink my attack!

Bluebelle-the-Inquisitive (Catherine) (bluebelle-the-inquisitive) | 90 comments Dubhease wrote: "I assume graphic novels are included in comics?"
I'm going with yes. To me, I feel like they were aiming for the visual format idea.

message 7: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 20 comments I'll most likely end up reading the next release of She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat, Vol. 1 for this one, but lots of great yuri manga out there. Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon, Vol. 1 was another series I really loved. Adding some of the series I've read or have on my tbr to the Listopia!

message 8: by Michele (new)

Michele Olson | 181 comments My first thought was a comic of the stand-up variety, so maybe an autobiography/memoir.

message 9: by Sasha (new)

Sasha Wolf (sashajwolf) | 367 comments I'm also assuming that graphic novels are included, since it's such a porous distinction. I had two on my TBR that fit:

Goat Magic
Navigating With You

message 10: by Karen (new)

Karen Witzler (kewitzler) | 160 comments Alison Bechdel - Are You My Mother?: A Comic Drama -- includes a mini history of psychology and psychoanalysis - rich and deep.

and her recent The Secret to Superhuman Strength - which I am assured by other readers here includes Pilates for that other prompt.

I also have hopes for :

I Love Led Zeppelin by Ellen Forney

The One Hundred Nights of Hero by Isabel Greenberg

Acidic Quagga (acidicquagga) | 96 comments Succulent Trans-inclusive Sapphic Erotic Comics by Niki Smith
I'll be reading Succulent: Trans-inclusive Sapphic Erotic Comics by Multiple Authors.

Jennifer T. (jent998) | 267 comments If graphic novels aren’t your thing, I have 3 different ones for you.

If you want a sweet little romance I recommend:
Bingo Love by Tee Franklin

If you want something more supernatural and thriller based (with werewolves) I recommend:
Squad by Maggie Tokuda-Hall

For a hug in comic form I recommend:
The Tea Dragon Society (Tea Dragon, #1) by Kay O'Neill

Thanks for the recommend, Sasha. I will be reading Goat Magic.

Ellen Marcolongo | 112 comments I am going to read The Essential Dykes To Watch Out For by Alison Bechdel by Alison Bechdel.

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 1823 comments I just got a bundle of Critical Role comics, so I'm hoping either Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins: Yasha Nydoorin or Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins: Beauregard Lionett will work.

That was such a helpful list that I now have TOO MANY sapphic comics on hold at my library LOL!!

Thank you, because I wasn't SUPER thrilled with my first choice, seeing all these other options helped a lot.

Cyndy (cyndy-ksreader) | 164 comments We always called them comic books, but this doesn't use the word book. I'm wondering why the author can't be a sapphic comic?

Love the lateral thinking! Go for it, if that suits your interests better.

That's what I'm going for, Amber Ruffin has written a couple of books. Watch PopSugar plug my loophole next year!

If you're also doing the 52 book club challenge, her book You'll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey: Crazy Stories about Racism fills the "author's dog mentioned in bio" prompt.

message 22: by Brandon (new)

Brandon Harbeke | 812 comments X-Men: The Wedding Special (2024) #1 has romance, action, humor, and a variety of creative teams working on it. It also has some interviews, retrospective, and a couple of related reprints. I give it 4 stars.

I love this idea! I just don't do well on graphic novels- I want to read the words or I won't get lost in the story.

This could even work with a CHARACTER being a sapphic comic!

If you want to run with the idea of a character being a sapphic comic, I just read Most Wonderful. It follows three siblings at Christmas and one is a stand-up comic.

message 25: by Denise (new)

Denise | 543 comments I am reading Fun House a Family Tragicomic 1ST Edition and then Superhuman Strength for pilates

message 27: by Bea (last edited Feb 08, 2026 04:02AM) (new)

Bea | 763 comments I didn't find one mention of Pilates in The Secret to Superhuman Strength. It is possible that I missed it; but, I chose to fit that book into sapphic comic, since she spent a fair amount of the book on her relationships with other women. And, I was mildly pleased that I would not need to find another book for this prompt.

I agree. I'd include Manga too.

Aquaria | 70 comments Cyndy wrote: "That's what I'm going for, Amber Ruffin has written a couple of books. Watch PopSugar plug my loophole next year"

Thank you for filling this prompt for me. Only last month, I read her book about the awful things people say to her sister. Now I can tick that box.

message 30: by Michele (new)

Michele Olson | 181 comments Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel. I wouldn't have read it if not for this prompt, I didn't particularly enjoy it (thought it was boring), and I'm glad graphic novels don't take long to read.

message 31: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 2019 comments I just finished Red and the Wolves: A Graphic Novel. I was into it and totally ready for everything to get tied together, and then the last quarter of the book happened and the wheels fell off. I'm so bummed!

message 32: by LeahS (new)

LeahS | 602 comments I read Florrie. A sweet book about women's football in the 1920s, and its ban by the FA (not suitable for the weaker sex). I very much liked the style of the illustrations and there were several Sapphic love stories.
