Time for the second installment in the Swallows & Amazon series. I'll be reading on my kindle & this will be the first time I have read it.

No open spoilers please - or use spoiler tags! We don't want to spoil a first time read for anyone!

Started last night & already invested - Ransome builds such a complete world. My copy has b/w drawings & maps which are showing clearly on my kindle.

For a children's book it is long though - 399 pages! But they just flew past!

As in the previous book these are very practical children. John in particular (view spoiler)[ takes responsibility for his own actions - he is very hard on himself! (hide spoiler)]

It is long, but as you say it's just flying along!

I'm loving the drawings spotted throughout and at the beginning of each chapter. The maps remind me of the ones we used to make when playing treasure hunts in the neighbourhood. Wonderful childhood memories.

They have just (view spoiler)[shipwrecked and salvaged the wreck. Such resilience in not going for the natives :) (hide spoiler)]

I'm at 45% & it has stopped flying for me!

But as you say, the drawings are charming!

Mmmm, it isn't moving as well as the first book for some reason. I'm about the same place.

I'm taking a short break from this one. I'm having a bad run of not being totally engaged by my choices.
