The history of education has long since changed in negative and uncondonable ways. Education originally taught specifically philosophy, medicine, and theology, yet used selective candidacy for who was eligible for it. In modern times, education is more widespread, and accessible, however has led to a downfall of substance.
The mathematicians lement offers wonderful insight on the lack of memorable substance.
Humankind as a species, is set apart from other mammals, because of our enhanced cognitive abilities and odd wonder of the unknown. We possess a biological need for discovery and answers, hence science and religion, so education in theory should not be difficult to implement. Yet implementation has failed and the remembrance levels are extramely low, why?
In our efforts for accessable healthcare, we focused more on everyone knowing, than everyone wanting to know. Along with our desire for knowledge, we also attain a dislike for orders and mandatory concepts. The current school system took advantage of humanity’s wonder, smothering it in requirement.
When told to do something, we do not want to do, it creates rebellion. Children are not becoming dumber, they are rebelling against a system compressing their creativity.
Foster parents are often told to give a child an option over an order, as it is more effective. When we have the choice to learn, we put more effort and ambition into the subject. Standardized testing forces collective thinking, limits creativity and ambition, and is proven to lower cognitive abilities.
This has an even larger impact on children with high IQs. Kids with high IQs need cognitive stimulation, and school rarely provides that. Not only can this lower their IQ, it has negative effects on mental health.
Children with high IQs, not given the stimulation they need, are more likely to develop depression and anxiety, which may ever account partially for the rise in mental illness.
The education system is failing us. Learning is a beautiful concept ripped apart by close minded thinking, and society’s need to control through collective thinking. Instead of taking creativity and wonder and running with it, we suppressed it.
