I’ve only read one writing book and that was Stephen Kings. The problem with creative writing books is that you develop someone else’s techniques instead of your own. I have found that King gets too over descriptive to the point of boring. Just my opinion and he is considered a writer and yours truly is a mere hack!

Tierra I don’t think anyone who writes think their stuff is good enough and could be improved. Even someone who writes a best seller probably thinks it could be better. If one waits till they think they have the perfect book it would never be finished!

Some of you may wonder where writers come up with ideas for books or stories. Perhaps it’s real life experiences or maybe a dream they had. It’s hard to say based on each individual. For myself sometimes I come up with a book title I like then write a story around it. Other times I write a story then struggle for days to fit my story.
The other day I decided to make a pot of ham and beans with cornbread. I usually use some beef broth when making beans. Digging through the pantry I found some stuff called bone broth. This triggered a horror story idea titled Bone Broth about a cannibalistic serial killer. Now I just have to write it!

Amyjzed | 2 comments Hi! I came to this group wondering if anyone does have a recommendation for a helpful book or resource on writing, but I do mainly think that reading great books is probably what I believe in most.

I saw another group formed around a particular creative writing book, so I was wondering if anyone had feedback on this or a particular similar book:
A Writer's Craft: Multi-Genre Creative Writing

For context, I am a high school English teacher and have been gathering and toying with various ideas for something meaningful I would like to write.
I recently started formulating a clearer storyline and character for a potential YA novel.

A book I have that I have only read a few chapters of so far is Anne Lamont's Bird by Bird; I know a meditative practice with reading that book chapter by chapter along with some journaling would probably be a good next step for me.

Thanks and I'm glad to be here with you all!
