Captain Pelzard helms the colony ship "Dauntless" across three thousand light years of uncharted space, hoping to reach the paradise-like exoplanet known as Trappist 39. Unknown to him, his First Mate and Chief Engineer are plotting a mutiny.

The mutineers put their plan into motion, but before they can take over the ship, it crashes onto a desolate asteroid in a remote solar system dominated by a strange neutron star.

Pelzard and his entourage leave in the lifeboat on a dangerous and desperate mission to reach the nearest base, and return with a rescue ship.

That leaves the mutineers, colonists, and a few dozen Marines in a desperate struggle to survive on the harsh and unforgiving asteroid.
