This thread is the place to discuss the books we'll read for the Winter Challenge, which is to read part of a horse or pony series. Sign up to the Challenge on the homepage or at this link.

https://www.goodreads.com/challenges/...

The books can be fact or fiction. You can decide if you count different books of the same series, or different series, or both ways.

To enrol, you will be asked how many books you intend to read; it's okay to say one. You will be asked which shelf the books are on, and if you don't have one called horse, or challenge, or whatever you choose, Goodreads will add that shelf to your bookshelves.

When you pick a book, file it on the challenge shelf, and when you finish it, Goodreads sees the progress and marks it off towards your goal.

Authors are welcome to name their own books if they suit the topic, as they could read the books for the Challenge.

Have fun! For any help to sign up and shelve books, just ask, either here or privately.

Lots of fun to be had in a series, that's for sure. I enjoy following characters as they grow.

Young readers have old favourites like the Jill pony stories or Silver Brumby stories. The Black Stallion series and Flicka books fit as well. Most of these can be read as standalones. There are newer series about pony kids which often depend on you following all the books.

A Stable for Jill (Jill) (Knight Books) by Ruby Ferguson Silver Brumby's Daughter (Silver Brumby, #2) by Elyne Mitchell The Black Stallion's Filly (Black Stallion Series, Book 8) by Walter Farley Green Grass of Wyoming, Part 3 by Mary O'Hara

Books for adult readers could include the Eventing series or crime stories following the same detective like some Dick Francis books. Some of my Cara Cassidy mysteries suit. Plenty of cowboy and cowgirl stories come in series!

Pride (The Eventing Series, #2) by Natalie Keller Reinert Dark Horse A Dick Francis Novel by Felix Francis Murder At Kildare Mensa (Mensa Mystery Series #4) by Clare O'Beara Testing the Cowboy's Resolve (Rowdy Ranch #3) by Vicki Lewis Thompson White Stallion, Red Mare by J.T. Edson Trotting into Trouble (A Horse Rescue Mystery, #2) by Amber Camp

There are also fantasy stories featuring horses, and some would suit YA or adult readers.

The Horse and His Boy (Chronicles of Narnia, #5) by C.S. Lewis Sword-Dancer (Tiger and Del, #1) by Jennifer Roberson Across the Green Grass Fields (Wayward Children, #6) by Seanan McGuire

Younger readers will probably enjoy series like Half-Moon Ranch, the Saddle Club; or even My Little Pony. (I've never read any of those, someone tell me if they are worth a look?)

Wild Horses (The Horses of Half Moon Ranch, #1) by Jenny Oldfield Rodeo Rocky (The Horses of Half Moon Ranch, #2) by Jenny Oldfield Horse Power (Saddle Club, #4) by Bonnie Bryant Horse Crazy (Saddle Club, #1) by Bonnie Bryant My Little Pony Equestria Girls I Love to Draw! (4) by My Little Pony Tempest's Story (My Little Pony The Movie) by My Little Pony

Hi Elie, good to have you here!

Of course, the challenge is open to all members. See the link I put at the top of this thread. When you click that you will get the form to fill, and I've put the explanation on top as well.
Then come back to this thread and pick your series! If you tell me what book/s you are planning to read, we can put the covers up to show.
If you need more help, feel free to ask. There is always a reader who hasn't participated in challenges yet.
