I personally LOVE annotating my books! I think it shows how much I enjoyed the book and shows how loved it was/is. Some people don't like annotating their books, and some think it's something like a "disgrace," haha. What about you guys?

I could never. writing, highlighting, tabs, dog earing pages, or breaking the spine are all a big no for me... which is why I don't lend out books lol
I feel like breaking the spine and dog-earing the page are a big NO for me, but i am comfortable highlighting and doing little comments in some books but if they are my really loved books, like Toxic or Aaron's Obsession or Little Stranger, then no way.
i love to use sticky tabs and pencil to mark in books (so i can erase it later on if i want), and i just started a buddy read so it's really fun to make little notes to share with my friend/for my future self to find! i also don't mind dog earring... but only for older/secondhand books i have lol, and even then I rarely do. however breaking the spine is a big NO unless the spine is already broken
Nuh uh.Writing, highlighting, drawing etc in my books feels like vandalism.
And I don’t dog ear unless it’s already rly old and messed up.
(I never purposely break spines either)
tbh i read books on kindle and buy books as trophies so writing in the books is absolutely out of the question lol

How do people feel about post it note annotation?? I want to try it but I’m worried it’ll be too chaotic.
Instead of writing annotations in the actual book I’ve seen a lot of people just sticking post it notes in the pages with annotations on them lmao
I never ever ever lend out my books. Writing, bending the spine, folding pages are all HUGE nos for me
I am completely against this. If someone needs to write something down, why use a book? This would only be acceptable on a deserted island, where buying paper is impossible.
I can't respond to EVERYONE, so I'm just going to leave this huge block here and add a few of my thoughts, lol!☆ I hate cracking the spines of my books, so I prefer hardcovers. But whenever I do happen to read a paperback, I end up cracking the spines anyhow. 😕
☆ Dog-ears... I HATE THOSE! I hate it when I accidentally bend a page or the cover of a paperback, so I would never dog-ear a page.
☆ Lending out books: I've done this ONCE, and I never got it back. Needless to say, I'm never doing that again, haha!
☆ Someone said they write in their books with pencil so they can erase what they said if they happen to disagree with it in the future. I think that's cool! I've never heard of someone writing in their books with pencil, and I think it's neat that you can just erase it!
☆ SOMEONE ELSE SAID BLOCKING OUT SEX SCENES!!! YES, A MILLION TIMES OVER!!! Personally, I don't like reading about sex (or even watching it), and I do this whenever a sex does happen to appear in my books! I try not to buy any that contain any of them, though.
☆ A third person mentioned using Post-it Notes! I don't think using Post-its is "too chaotic." For books that I'm HEAVILY interested in (like The Stillwater Girls), sometimes the margins don't offer enough space, so I opt for Post-it Notes! :)
Overall, it's been fun reading your comments and thoughts! It's very interesting to see how some, like myself, love annotating their books, while others are heavily against it. Thanks for responding, by the way! 🤎
Only if it feels right for the book. I love my babies but I will annotate self help books or a story where it just feels right. I recently annotated Call Me by Your Name because I had wayyy too many thoughts while reading it lol
I sometimes use sticky notes, but most of the time, I have a separate notebook I use to keep track of what happens and write favorite quotes or character basics. . I mainly don't write on the pages because my mind improves frequently and in a couple of weeks if I looked back at my notes I would find myself stupid. But that's just my way of going about reading. However, I don't like when people dog ear pages and I ask why? Also, purposely breaking spines. If I see a broken spine, I don't get bugged, while I like my spines being clear. But I know people who open their books and spend two minutes trying to break the spine. If you do either of these things, what's your reason?
I generally don’t really like writing in my books, unless they’re for school. I tend to make a separate google doc for words that I learnt or interest me, or to keep tract of interesting parts in the book so I can talk to friends about it
Also, I don’t get people who dog-ear their books tbh. Just use a bookmark, they’re so much prettier anyways. Please I’ll make you a bookmark just so you stop dog-earring
My friend bought a hunk of metal to use as a bookmark that costed like twenty bucks and it's literally just a peice of metal. 🥹

HAHAH
I used to loathe the idea of writing in my books. My books are like my precious babies🥺. Slowly, I started annotating my books. I started with color tabbing and sticky notes (jotting down whatever you’re feeling in that very moment). Then I moved to pencil, underlining my favorite scenes, circling words that stick out to me, drawing hearts, emojis, sketches. I’m still scared to highlight in my books (afraid it would bleed through and make it look ugly). If you want to start annotating but don’t want to mess your books up… please use erasable pens!! Before you write in your books, make sure the pens are truly erasable.
I’d have a good time underlining, highlighting, stuffing paper and notes into my books, tabbing. I recommend!
