Hello everyone,
I was away at circus camp for a long weekend and could not get a post out before I left. So this one covers two weeks.

II listened to the second Hidden Legacy book, White Hot. I am very much enjoying this series. That book went very fast (to be fair, I listen at 1.2x too so it goes faster even). But I love the characters and how they behave.

And after finishing that one I immediately started the third book Wildfire. I'm not too far into it yet, but it is a continuation of the overall story. I like that each book has a conclusion even though there is a larger problem they are trying to solve too.

I also finished a free Amazon short story The Kill Clause: A Short Story. This one was pretty good for a short story. It really had a beginning, middle and end and created a world. The ending/solution was a bit unrealistic but it was a good job for overall.

I'm also reading Snake-Eater. This is a Kindle book I also got from Amazon First Reads. It is by T. Kingfisher. I have seen several people recommend this author and jumped at the chance to read it. I think I have a few others on my TBR list. I am enjoying it and the writing style so far.

With a lot of holidays coming up, do you read more or less when on vacation or when traveling for other, non-vacation reasons? Does it matter what kind of trip it is (flying, train, driving, bus, cruise, etc)?

For me, I can only listen to audiobooks on planes and trains. Often I only have the attention span for short stories, or at least that is what I favor because I can finish one, take a break, and then go on to another different story. I only play my audiobooks in the car when it is 1. a long road trip and 2. I am alone. When I'm with other people in the car we either listen to music or talk.

The busy season at work has begun, so my reading time may be somewhat curtailed for a while. I did get in some books for Native American Heritage Month.

The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World - I got to the end of this and found that it had originated as an essay in a magazine, and things made a lot more sense. It's just the author musing about gift economies. Some people seem to love it, but I didn't find it particularly compelling. The art is lovely.

The Truth According to Ember - A rom-com with Native leads. The blurb is like, "she lies and says she's white to get a job," which is true, but she also lies and says (view spoiler)[she has a degree that she doesn't (hide spoiler)], which is really a different sort of thing? It's a bit far-fetched in mostly genre-appropriate ways (the love interest is basically the perfect dude, and there was only one bed!) but I thought it wrapped up OK, so maybe we'll call it a hopeful debut.

QOTW: During travel, I can read on planes, and I have very little train experience but I seem OK to there, too. I used to get carsick as a kid, and while I think it's gotten a lot better, I don't risk it. For long trips I will maybe do an audiobook but usually not.
During the actual vacation, I have realized it largely depends on whether I wake up first. If so, I will eat breakfast and read for a while. If not, I am likely to be talking to vacation companions or starting activities. (If it's a chill vacation with just spouse, there might still be reading even if we are both up.)
