Our subchallenge reading this season will be dictated by the lucky stars!
There are twelve signs in the zodiac. Each sign has an associated "element" (features that are common between signs), "modality" (describes their function in the seasonal cycle), and "polarity" (its energetic orientation).
How to play:
You will read ten books, each fitting a different zodiac sign: no sign can be repeated and you will be eliminating two signs of your choice.
For a book to fit a sign, it must fit the requirements of at least three of the four characteristics: MONTHS the sign is active, the sign's ELEMENT, its MODALITY, and its POLARITY.
This spreadsheet summarises the requirements : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
MONTHS:
Aquarius: Jan (1) - Feb (2)
Pisces: Feb (2) - Mar (3)
Aries: Mar (3) - Apr (4)
Taurus: Apr (4) - May (5)
Gemini: May (5) - Jun (6)
Cancer: Jun (6) - Jul (7)
Leo: Jul (7) - Aug (8)
Virgo: Aug (8) - Sep (9)
Libra: Sep (9) - Oct (10)
Scorpio: Oct (10) - Nov (11)
Sagittarius: Nov (11) - Dec (12)
Capricorn: Dec (12) - Jan (1)
To fit the month requirement, a book must have EITHER a month number for that sign as the last digit in its year of first publication (for signs with double-digit months, drop the leading "1", so Libra would be 9 or 0, Scorpio would be 0 or 1, etc.) OR the first three letters of either month listed under the sign found in any order in the title of the book.
ELEMENTS, and their notable attributes:
The book you choose must have either one of the MPGs listed for the element associated with the sign you're reading:
*Fire, passionate and active* MPG: Romance or Adventure
*Earth, detail-oriented and practical* MPG: Mystery or Nonfiction
*Air, social and witty* MPG: Book Club or Humor
*Water, nurturing and imaginative* MPG: Self Help or Fantasy
MODALITY:
*Cardinal signs: start the seasons and are action-oriented, initiating new beginnings* Read the first book published by an author or the first installment of a series.
*Fixed signs: occur in the middle of a season and sustain the energy of that season, often seen as stubborn or steady* Read a standalone book or a book in the middle of a series (neither the first nor the most recent installment).
*Mutable signs: occur at the end of a season and are flexible, adaptable, and responsible for transitioning into the next season" Read the most recently published book by an author or the most recently/last in a series.
POLARITY: A division of the zodiac into two opposing groups based on a masculine or feminine principle, similar to the yin-yang concept.
M: read a book by a male author
F: read a book by a female author.
Here's the spreadsheet again: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
If you have Excel or Open Office, you can download a version for your own planning.
Example (fits all 4 characteristics, but only 3 are required):

sign: VIRGO
month, Oct/Nov in title or 0/1 last digit of year (O,C,T in title)
