Algernon (Darth Anyan) | 593 comments Finally, I have a new name to add to my top list of cartoonists, after Bill Waterson and Gary Larson. I’m not sure which of my friends posted a review recently for one of Gauld’s albums so I will be giving my thanks to all of them, hoping the site can survive the numerous hiccups in functionality of the last year and that we can all continue to share in our enthusiasm for books, libraries, writing, reading and reviewing...

... enthusiasm that is actually the theme of the present collection of cartoons.
The revenge in the title is a reference to the rules of engagement and isolation during the Covid pandemic, a reminder that librarians should be rated as essential workers for the survival of our social fabric and that laughter is the best remedy for stress.

A big part of the attraction me is how easily I recognize the booknerd in me as I ponder over the review randomizer dice, the geology of the TBR mountain, the writer’s emergency supply shelf or the use of AI in generating plots. Some of the observations about predictable plots and writer tricks are excellent material for a little self analysis in my reading and reviewing habits.
