I'm still working on the early and middle years of our Mysteries Challenge (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... ). Help me find ideas by reading a book with MPG Mystery or Crime published before 1980.

Could I use books published in the 1800s for this task, such as a book by Wilkie Collins? It would not be part of the Mystery Challenge, but it would be published before 1980.
