Thank you. Not sure who is joining this but anyone read anything by Denis before? This is my introduction, hope to have a great discussion. :)
I have begun and am enjoying the Francis Birrell translation with audiobook accompaniment from Naxos.

Just to reaffirm this is very engaging. I'm surprised it didn't generate more interest in our female members.
I’ve started and I’m surprised there are some comical elements so far (my book cover does mention this was written as a practical joke), not sure if it’ll continue as Diderot seems to criticise/address issues with Christianity/religion.
I’m now half way and a bit puzzled at Suzanne’s personal beliefs. She has stated numerous times that the monastery life isn’t for her and yet she is a believer of God, prays and does her duties very well. I’m just wondering which aspects of the religious vocation that doesn’t appeal to her? On my earlier comment on Diderot’s criticism, I now see that he isn’t fully criticising Christianity as a whole and it’s practices but rather certain aspects of it as we do see moments of kindness and affection from some of the nuns.
