As we end this year I decided to sing the years. Lets look at the year songs.

1. 19 Something Mark Wills
"19 Somethin'" was released in September 2002. The song begins with singer's reminiscence of his formative years, the 1970s and 1980s. As the song was still at number one the week of the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster occurred, some radio stations momentarily stopped playing the single as the song contained the line "A space shuttle fell out of the sky," a reference to the similar Challenger disaster that occurred in 1986. Despite this however, the song would remain at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks.

2. Summer of 69 Bryan Adams
There are two meanings to this song. On the surface, "Summer of '69" is a classic rock anthem about reminiscing on a simpler time of youth, love, and music. This is the most straightforward reading of the lyrics. The sexual interpretation. During a 2008 interview, Adams confirmed that "69" was a reference to the sexual position and not the year.

3. Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five Paul McCartney
"Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five" is the final track on Paul McCartney and Wings' highly acclaimed 1973 album, Band on the Run. While the song's title references a specific year, it was released 12 years prior, offering a futuristic, epic closing to the record.

4. 1999 Prince
"1999" by Prince: An upbeat, synth-heavy funk-pop anthem about partying like there's no tomorrow, famously released before the turn of the millennium. After watching a documentary on Nostradamus that predicted a "terror" in 1999, Prince's bandmates were filled with dread. Instead of despair, Prince found the situation ironic. He wrote the track as an optimistic party anthem, providing an escape from the widespread fear of nuclear conflict.

5. 1984 David Bowie
"1984" is a song by the English musician David Bowie, from his 1974 album Diamond Dogs, released as a single in the United States and Japan. Written in 1973, it was inspired by George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four and, like much of its parent album, originally intended for a stage musical based on the novel, which was never produced because permission was refused by Orwell's widow Sonia.

6. Disco 2000 Pulp
One of the band’s most famous songs off their seminal 1995 album, Disco 2000 is a Britpop classic which sees singer Jarvis Cocker lament over his childhood sweetheart and imagines where and who she is now.

7. Louisiana 1927
"Louisiana 1927" is a 1974 song written and recorded by Randy Newman on the album Good Old Boys. Sung from the perspective of a nameless resident of the area recounting the flooding of St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes during the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 which left 700,000 people homeless in Louisiana and Mississippi.

8. December 1963 (Oh What A Night) The Four Seasons
According to the co-writer and longtime group member Bob Gaudio, the song's lyrics were originally set in 1933 with the title "December 5th, 1933", celebrating the repeal of Prohibition in the United States. While the band felt that the instrumental groove would be a hit, they disliked the lyrics, and so Judy Parker wrote a new set of lyrics. By Gaudio's account, the song was a recollection of his and Parker's first meeting.

9. 1979 Smashing Pumpkins
Billy Corgan said the Smashing Pumpkins' song "1979" stemmed from a specific moment of reflection on a cold, dreary Chicago day, where he was at a stoplight and felt the transition between youth and adulthood was imminent. The song captured the feeling of an "idealized vision of youth" and the wistful sensation of being on the precipice of adulthood, a mood he tried to convey to friends and through the accompanying music video.

10. 1812 Overture Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky
1812 Overture is a concert overture in E♭ major written in 1880 by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The piece commemorates Russia's successful defence against the French invasion of the nation in 1812.

11. 1982 Randy Travis
"1982" was recorded by country music singer Randy Travis. The song's narrator recalls a time when his former lover was all his back in the year 1982. According to American Country Countdown the original title of this song was "1962." However, Travis said that he didn't feel comfortable singing about a love that he lost when he was only a little over two years old. He and producer Kyle Lehning revised the lyric to refer to 1982, as they felt it was more believable because it would have only been three years before the time of the recording.

12. 1994 Jason Aldean
"1994" is a song recorded by American country music artist Jason Aldean. The song, a tribute to Joe Diffie, refers to many of his songs: Upon being sent a copy of the song by Billboard, Diffie said, "What else can you say but what an honor it is to have the larger part of a song reference songs of mine. To think all of Jason's fans will be chanting my name... pretty dang cool."

"1985" is a song that was written and recorded by American pop-punk band SR-71 for their album Here We Go Again. The song is about a middle-aged woman who is longing for her past and dwelling on her current mundane lifestyle while reflecting on how things have changed since the 1980s, specifically in music and pop culture.

"In the Year 2525 (Exordium & Terminus)" is a 1969 hit song by the American pop-rock duo of Zager and Evans. "In the Year 2525" is a song about the journey of mankind over a 10,000-year span. It predicts that man's thoughts, relationships and body will be negatively impacted by technological advances and ends with man's extinction.

According to the co-writer and longtime group member Bob Gaudio, the song's lyrics were originally set in 1933 with the title "December 5th, 1933", celebrating the repeal of Prohibition in the United States. While the band felt that the instrumental groove would be a hit, they disliked the lyrics, and so Judy Parker wrote a new set of lyrics. By Gaudio's account, the song was a recollection of his and Parker's first meeting.
