Rusty Berr | 6 comments I haven't read the longer version yet, I picked up a used copy at Goodwill a couple of months ago so no time like the present.

Nikki | 8 comments Enjoy the ride! I love how he develops each character and we get to follow them before the illness and afterwards. How their behavior changes throughout the book. I've read The Stand a few times. The last time I listened to the audio version. I read fast so I increased the playback speed. It was done well.

Henrik | 5 comments its amazing how SK had managed to create a post-apocalyptic story that keeps you hooked without involving zombies or other monsters

Nick | 27 comments Anyone happen to know how you can find a copy of the original version of the stand?

There are some on ebay. Be sure to include "1978" in your search, e.g., Stephen King The Stand 1978.

After you do, for fun, sort by highest price first.

Squire (srboone) | 96 comments I got my 1st print HC when it came out. I made it through the 1990 version once. That's enough for me. No more. I've read the original 4 times. It's a masterpiece.

Oscar | 62 comments I have never read this so I am in! Cool to read such a large book with you all. 😆

Evie Peterson | 1 comments I read the larger and re edited version and I absolutely love it! It is such a wild ride and I hope to read the original.

Kat (Katlovesbooks) Dietrich (katd59) | 23 comments This will be my 4th reading of The Stand. Probably my favorite King novel. This is the first time I'm reading the extended version. The characters in this book stay with me.

Igor Zveglic | 6 comments Looking forward to a reread after some 15+ years.
I hope everyone who’s reading it for the first time have a great journey!

Damian | 38 comments This is my second time reading through it. The first time was over twenty years ago and I have obviously forgotten a lot of it. I am currently around two hundred pages in and I am loving it! Looking forward to reading what tidbits some of you gather from this read through.

EARLY SPOILER AHEAD! Avoid if you haven't read the first couple hundred pages yet. (view spoiler)

Emma | 1 comments “The place where you made your stand never mattered. Only that you were there…and still on your feet.”

This was my second reading of The Stand and it still holds up as my most favorite book. The story is epic from start to finish and the characters are simply unforgettable. When I finish this book, I’m always a little sad as I feel like I’m leaving my treasured friends behind in a world where they exist forever and where I am simply a visitor passing through; merely catching a glimpse from the outside looking in. Also, I never thought it could be possible that a dog would end up being one of my most beloved characters EVER in a book, but The Stand also has done that for me. This book is wild. It will grip you with fear and suspense one moment and then have you teary eyed and choked up the next. The tenacity of the human spirit and its will to carry on in the face of extreme hardships and uncertainty always shakes me to my core. Stephen King truly outdid himself when he wrote this one and I know that is a shared opinion among many. This is an extremely special book that I wish everyone could have a chance to read.

Sue Paules | 1 comments A bit late to the December party (and my first time contributing to the group, but following for ages), but as I'm reading, I really want to share some thoughts an wondering if anyone has the same. This is at least my third time reading the book, first time when it was first published, 2nd time with the update. Although I'm only a couple hundred pages in, I'm finding myself thinking a lot about how prophetic/insighful SK was in relation to Covid. Also, I'm really being taken back to how life was in the 80s and 90s, no cell phones, no computers, men's open attitude toward women. I started reading this to get the Full Experience of the Dark Tower series, and I'm thinking I might be getting more from this #3 read than #1 or #2!
