Recommend biology books here. I'll start with the gross but funny books of Mary Roach.

Gulp Adventures on the Alimentary Canal by Mary Roach - everything you ever wanted to know about digestion, from spit to s---

Stiff The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach - even funnier and more disgusting than the one above

Raphael Sender | 31 comments To understand about infectious diseases that have ripped apart the world for the past 50 or so years. the dangers of biological warfare, the dangers of newly discovered mutated diseases there is a battle going on between humans and microbes. our environmental arrogance and stupidity is leading to big disasters. Our overuse of antibiotics is critical to disturbing a very delicate equilibrium.
Although a lengthy read it doesn't have to be read in one sitting.

The Coming Plague: Newly Emerging Diseases in a World Out of Balance

Raphael Sender | 31 comments Paul Farmer is a professor and doctor at Harvard University. This person is so caring and a real righteous member of the human race. I recommend all his books. This is a subject few people know anything about. He is an anthropologist who is trying to understand how to combat disease all over the world. For one, he stresses that the poor are more susceptible to diseases. this may sound obvious, but it is not at all obvious how to solve these problems. the emergence and reemergence of so many diseases long thought to be eradicated are wiping out whole cultures. In combating these diseases he stresses the need to understand the people you are treating. One must understand the nuances of the culture if one is to truly be successful in combating diseases across the globe.
absolutely fascinating read and really important for the citizens of the world.
I have met Dr.Farmer and admire his perseverance and intellect.
