What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I read this book in the late 80’s early 90’s. It had several short stories. One of the first stories was about 2 women pulling on a child and the child screaming in pain and one women passing the test and being the real mother because she would rather lose her child than hurt him.
One of the last stories was more of a riddle. 3 animals…maybe a fox, turtle and rabbit (I’m not sure but one was a predator for sure) they all had to make it across the lake in a boat but the fox couldn’t ride in boat with the rabbit because he would eat the rabbit. You had to figure out riddle…maybe the whole book was riddles???…hmm.
