Beowulf question

Okay, this is going to sound like an odd concept, but there's a book that i once checked out when I was in 6th grade, and its been plauging my mind because I only remember certain things about it.
Please bear with me as this is a very vague topic.
So l'Il list what I can remember:
- I believe that this book started off with a woman walking into a bank or something like that, I think she was described as sultry but I cant remember, she picks up a pen and it later melts in her hand (not from heat though).
- I think the main characters name was Jack?? Or at least something starting with J, he also had a neigh whos name started with a G, Gary maybe?
Who had a pregnant wife who's name was Gloria.
- There was another character whos occupation I don't remember but he was a ginger, and there was an aftersex scene I remember (because I immaturely giggled at it with other 6th graders) where "a bead of sweat dripped off her pink nipple, he watched and licked his lips, wanting to lick it up himself" or something.
- The characters would meet up at a bar to discuss current events, because everything in the town started melting randomly.
That's all I can truly remember, but I remember being absolutely in love with this book. I just really want to refind it. If someone could help I would be more than grateful. I know it's not a of information to work with. Ive been searching for years T-T
