Cheryl | 1201 comments Rumors have been going around about upcoming changes to Goodreads. I contacted Goodreads Support about it, and I got back this email from them:

“In the coming weeks, we will be making some updates to how messaging works on Goodreads. You may have already received an email about this upcoming change.

What's changing?
Sending direct messages between individual members will no longer be available.
Images and external links will no longer be supported in messages.

While sending direct messages between individual members are no longer available, you can still access your past messages from your inbox, Group moderators can still send broadcast messages to their group members, and you can still send group invitations to your Goodreads friends. All other public interactions, such as writing and responding to book reviews, remains unchanged.”

Just wanted to let you know. I’d heard rumors about this happening in another group I belong to. Turns out it’s real. Bummer!

Weird! Although, I’m guessing anyone who has been harassed by a creeper might like this change.

Cheryl | 1201 comments It's odd, because you can set your Messages to "Friends Only" to cut down on creepers. (I do.) Goodreads should just have a Messages setting where you can select "Top Friends Only" and then you can select which friends on your list are allowed to Message you. But that would make too much sense, I guess.

My thought is that they want to free up server space which then can be used by AWS for their cloud services.
