Direct Messaging Going Away...

Amazon - let's get rid of a socializing aspect on our social media platform. 🙄I'm fine with whatever method you go with.
No nevermind to me, but I long ago took myself out of the prize circle. I knew I'd never take the time to go get the prize so someone else might as well win it rather than have the prize wasted on me.
Elizabeth, I didn't see the email from Amazon. How are they suggesting we communicate, then? Some other mechanism Amazon owns. This seems really a bad idea. But maybe they are having a huge increase in harrassing direct messages. I know I dealt with a couple who were looney tunes.
I did receive the message, today, and that was the first thought I had...how would the monthly challenge winner communication work? You could maybe announce the winner on the board, and provide a way for them to contact you outside of Goodreads to facilitate picking up their prize book. Here is another question for our group...do most of us read electronically these days? Is the prize book something to continue? I would love the challenges to continue and our interactions to continue, but maybe it is time to eliminate the prize?
Well, I saw the announcement from Goodreads about messaging going away. No reason given, which irritates me. Feeling snarkey, I replied with this:Clearly you are from the Elon Musk Universoty
School of Management Efficiency. "Never explain
your decisions. Explaining your decisions just
makes you look weak. Members understading
is immaterial to the decision so don't waste time
explaining. Besides, where else can they go? "
I did not use messaging much, but when I did,
it involved sharing information I did not wamt
to share publicallly.
End of reply. I know it will go into, what we call in the field, a bit bucket, the electronic equivalent of a trash can. But I felt better.
And I got a reply! A repeat of the same message meaning any reply went into the bit bucket and created a repeat of the message.
I haven't seen that. Every time they pull a feature, I am reminded of The Memory Police.I don't mind saying which branch I use.
I saw that message and wondered why they were doing that. I don't care if the branch I use is out there.

I love the challenges but I don't participate for the prize (even though it is nice to get one.)

"In the coming weeks, we will be making some updates to how messaging works on Goodreads.
What's Changing?
• Direct messages between individual members will no longer be available
• Images and external links will no longer be supported in messages
While direct messages between individual members are no longer available, you can still access your past messages from your inbox, Group moderators can still send broadcast messages to their group members, and you can still send group invitations to your Goodreads friends. All other public interactions, such as writing and responding to book reviews, remains unchanged.
-The Goodreads Team"
How would you like to address prize giveaways going forward for those of you who participate in the Reading Challenges? Are you comfortable saying which library you visit on the public posts? Let me know what you think?
Thanks!
Elizabeth
