No, but I did sign the petition.https://www.change.org/p/urge-goodrea...
I actually got a response from Goodreads when I reported a pm and a comment on a review. I did that for the first time in ages. I usually don't bother anymore since I'm not used to true responses from them.
Manybooks one person did and they got the message sent out to everyone as the response. That is how she figured it was not a scam.

One of the reasons why the PMs are supposedly being gotten rid of is because of spamming etc. And while I certainly have had some issues with spam PMs in the past, I do wish that Goodreads staff could find another way of dealing with this that did not involve getting rid of PMs.

Thanks, I guess this seems to be a done deal so to speak, sigh.

I recently got spam but got it in a pm AND in a comment on one of my reviews. Getting rid of pms will not get rid of spam. The site has. enough money for staff to take action when spam is reported.

Ha, ha, ha (but also kind of sad)!

Ivonne wrote: "Be fair! Jeff's $55 million wedding in Italy really put a hole in his bank account!"I signed and donated to the petition, but it seems it was for the wrong cause.
Shall we set one up for Jeff and donate to him, instead?

That's great.
I also left comments under GR's posts on FB and insta and one of my friends posted on Twitter about it and tagged GR.Of course! they are keeping mumm about this drastic change on their social channels.
Manybooks wrote: "I do wish that Goodreads staff could find another way of dealing with this that did not involve getting rid of PMs..."The obvious - and easy - solution would be to enforce the setting that you could only get DMs from people you'd accepted a friend request from.
So there's another reason: quash the social side.
I just got the same message from GR on my regular email--about discontinuing DMs.I replied that I think this is a terrible idea and why. I also mentioned that a better option would be only to allow friends to exchange DMs as I have received scammer messages which is annoying--but no reason to kill the function. So I've responded twice: to this email and to the DM about the messaging.

I already have messages only from friends (but when I send a broadcast message as a moderator, it seems to trump my settings, so this can get annoying and cause some authors to get a bit pushy).

Cecily, Yes, this is it! I wouldn't be surprised if in the future they do away with comments and even likes on reviews.

I'm not as sure about comments though. They don't care about member friendships or communication. I still think there is a possibility they will let the site fold, just as they did with Shelfari and others. It might depend on how useful they think the site is for getting sales.
