You probably have received this message from Goodreads, and if not, you will soon.
Hello Goodreads Member,

In the coming weeks, we will be making some updates to how messaging works on Goodreads.

What’s Changing?
• Direct messages between individual members will no longer be available
• Images and external links will no longer be supported in messages

While direct messages between individual members are no longer available, you can still access your past messages from your inbox, Group moderators can still send broadcast messages to their group members, and you can still send group invitations to your Goodreads friends. All other public interactions, such as writing and responding to book reviews, remains unchanged.

-The Goodreads Team

Please be aware that this means you cannot directly message me privately as moderator or other group members. If you have questions, issues, or concerns, you will need to post them in the group.
Sigh… I wish Goodreads would leave well enough alone!

Michelle (michellehartline) | 139 comments Me, too. They keep whittling away at useful functions! Someone started a petition to keep direct messaging: https://c.org/6tzwkpMhBK

message 3: by Christina (new)

Christina (christinaovallsbooks) | 77 comments Ya, I'm in a group that does challenges that require members to mail each other. Things like that will be more difficult as will contacting moderators. I don't know what prompted the change, but I can't say that I'm unhappy about it either. I've gotten messages from people that were either scamming or just flat being creepy, which I will either ignore or block. All the comments I make are public, like this post, or comments/likes on people's book reviews, so the change doesn't bother me.

Nynniaw | 5 comments I don't understand it, thought. Yes, some people send creepy/unwanted messages, but thats the reality of every social platform. It doesn't really negate all the valid use of sending private messages to people regarding books/activities.
