Christabelle (christabelleallestad) | 154 comments How is it already December? Time sure flies! Right now I’m going through Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol. How about y’all? Any ambitious readers for this month?

message 2: by Ian (new)

Ian | 102 comments I only A Christmas Carol left.
I am still reading labelling the VT-2016 list that I have not done before. Nothing major.... Except for Tai-Pan by James Calvell for 32 hours...ouch.

Linda Martin (lindajm) | 139 comments I'm still reading the John Adams book, and getting close to the end. Only four more (very long) chapters!

I'm also listening to an audiobook for fiction. I always have one to listen to.

I've already read A Christmas Carol. Am I supposed to read it again? I think if I read any more books by Dickens I'll likely go to Great Expectations. Maybe in 2026.

Christabelle (christabelleallestad) | 154 comments I reread A Christmas Carol every year. I’ve appreciated Dickens’s use of language more and more as I’ve aged! I would love to branch out to his other writings. Great Expectations sounds like a good choice!

Ian | 102 comments rereading A Christmas Carol helps to get me into the holiday spirit as I go to my parents. the librivox version is pretty good

Ian | 102 comments It is the final countdown.... well, final hours. How close are y'all doing?

I finished last Sunday with A Christmas Carol on my way home.

message 7: by Jan (new)

Jan | 13 comments I only managed to reread A Christmas Carol, The Christmas Pig and one of L.M. Montgomery's short stories for my Christmas themed books this month.

message 8: by Mark (new)

Mark Wilson | 2 comments I finished my last list a week or so ago with the very Christmassy Frankenstein...

Any sign of a new list for next year? This was my first year really throwing myself into it and enjoyed it this year.

message 9: by Ian (new)

Ian | 102 comments This is my fourth on GR and did 1 offline.
I am not seeing anything on his blog, shop, or Patreon about another challenge coming.

Last year it was late in coming too though not as late as this year and we discussed doing an earlier challenge... I am half-ish in 2016 and would try for 2017 if nothing drops.

I looked on Challies' blog and Visual Theology and found nothing that looked like a challenge for this year. If something is posted early next month, I'll post it.

Linda Martin (lindajm) | 139 comments If something is posted I'm in for another year!!

December was a great reading month for me. I caught up on all my devotional reading as it was for the "Paul Tripp" prompt on this challenge. Also finished reading 11 other books in December so I could complete my Goodreads Reading Challenge goal of 73 books - actually finished with 75. I'll have plenty to choose from for "Best/Worst/Surprise" ...

Mark Wilson | 2 comments I think my plan will be to continue on with the lists I didn't get to this year - I completed up to the Heroic tier, but that leaves a couple of meaty lists to work through next year!

Linda Martin (lindajm) | 139 comments @Mark, good plan.

......

December reading:

Best: John Adams, by David McCullough - A long biography, but worth reading. John Adams was a Christian and one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. He was also second President of the USA.

Worst: The Briar Club, by Kate Quinn - I wish I hadn't read it.

Surprise: The Sin Eater, by Francine Rivers - This story touched my heart! After reading it I had to watch the movie online.

Another worthy mention that surprised me: Treasures of the Snow, by Patricia St. John - A friend of mine mentioned it as a book (juvenile novel) she read to her children when they were young, so I had to read it. I was surprised at how much this one touched me emotionally and imparted a good message to children about opening the door to Jesus.

Christabelle (christabelleallestad) | 154 comments I love the Sin Rater! But then, I’m kind of partial to Francine Rivers.

Linda Martin (lindajm) | 139 comments Could we have a 2026 thread even though it appears Tim isn't going to post a new challenge? We could create our own prompt lists choosing prompts from earlier challenges.

I like this idea.
