Susan | 1183 comments While the story of Mayor Henchard is continuing to unfold in Casterbridge, it’s time to start planning the group’s first read for 2026. Here’s the list of possibilities from the Random Book Generator (RBG) including one high vote getter from the last poll:

The Essays by Francis Bacon

The Myth of Sisyphus and Other Essays AND The Stranger by Albert Camus

Doctor Faustus by Thomas Mann

Timaeus and Critias by Plato

Kenilworth by Sir Walter Scott

Hadji Murád by Leo Tolstoy AND A Hero of Our Time by Mikhail Lermontov

The Way We Live Now by Anthony Trollope

This week is available for cogitating, researching, choosing, and proselytizing for your choices. The poll will open for voting on Dec 10 and the group discussion will start Jan. 7

La_mariane | 58 comments I'm very tempted by all the fiction books on this list.

I had never heard of "Hadji Murad" before, and it's going on my TBR list. And I always like books where money plays a big role, so "The way we live now" sounds good too.
