Well, I keep forgetting to come by here and chat!
I still can't believe how different the book is than the TV series! Lol

I think I watched the first episode of that series when it came out, but I really don't remember it at all. Maybe I only saw the previews. I can't picture who played Barbie, or Big Jim or anyone else.
In my head, they are clear characters, fully fleshed out.
The opening of this book is so strong. The plane and the poor little animal that is cleaved in twain. (Sounded good.) Then right into Big Jim's son who is clearly a psychopath, and yet isn't as bad as Jim himself as we find out.
I think this is one of King's strongest books.
Yes, it was a very strong start and you did great with your description of the groundhog's fate!
I will say that you didn't miss anything if you didn't watch it. It would probably have been good on it's own, if I hadn't read the book, but the people Under the Doom weren't even the same people as in the book!! So, needless to say, I had issues with the series.
