Booknblues | 12524 comments Have you ever found yourself stumbling across something in your reading repeatedly? Maybe every book you pick up has a rabbit in it and you become interested in rabbits and seek out books with them so you can find out more. You have gone down a rabbit hole in your reading.

We have developed the Down the Rabbit Hole challenge to encourage this type of exploration and hopefully some interesting and enlightening conversations.

- We will need your help in generating ideas for rabbit hole investigations.
- We will randomize your ideas and present 5 Rabbit Holes a month for you to go down.

Here is an example of 1 month’s choices

Rabbit Holes of the month
Horses
City life
Building/architecture/engineering
AI
WWI/The Great War

-We will present 5 Rabbit Holes each month.
-Participants are not required to participate each month and may begin at any time.
-Participants may read from any or all of the Rabbit Holes.
-The book will be considered for a Rabbit Hole if it fits the 5 tag rule, if a major portion of the book concerns the subject verified by book blurb/description or a quote from the book to show the subject matter and possibly book title. What we want to avoid is just an incidental mention, for example if a character sees some horses in a field, this would not be counted as going down that Rabbit Hole.
-Each book read earns a game point
-An extra game point for matching PBTag of the month.
-5 extra points for reading 5 books in a Rabbit Hole or reading 1 book for 5 Rabbit Holes.
-Please track your points throughout the challenge.
-Once a quarter participants may ask for an alternate Rabbit Hole to the ones which are presented and they will receive a randomized result.
-We will have a raffle at year's end which will be weighted by points earned.

For those members who find a Rabbit Hole which they like once a quarter they may designate one rabbit hole as their "warren". They can stay in their warren as long as they want, and books they read in their warren gets them a raffle entry.

This might be the first time I fully participate in a PBT challenge. This one sounds so up my alley.

Theresa | 16163 comments That's really a wonderful list! Some of the suggestions are so creative and interesting, I wish I'd thought of them.

And I LOVE that there is 'rabbits' as an option *guffaw*. Of course as Fran knows, I've already fallen down a rabbit hole about rabbit holes, and I'm already figuring out my bunny name and what I'm naming my primary burrow at the bottom of the rabbit hole -- where plotting and strategizing will happen. From it I will be digging tunnels to create a warren with a separate burrow to hold the books and research i fall down.

In fact, I think everyone in the challenge needs to come up with a bunny name.

KateNZ | 4204 comments Fabulous list, Fran! This is going to be such fun.

Brilliant idea about the rabbit name, Theresa. I’m in! I’ve always loved the Miffy picture books so that was an easy choice

Robin P | 6125 comments Hmm, there's Peter, Flopsy, Mopsy & Cottontail, and Benjamin Bunny from Beatrix Potter
Roger Rabbit
Harvey the invisible rabbit (except to one person) from the play with that name
the White Rabbit and the March Hare from Alice in Wonderland
Bugs Bunny, Roger Rabbit, Thumper, Oswald, Br'er Rabbit
Energizer Bunny, Fiver and others from Watership Down

For a huge list - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...

Theresa | 16163 comments I have taken Pookah, honoring Harvey who is a pookah in the movie. Saw a wonderful production in 2012 on Broadway with Jim Parsons as Elwood who is only person who sees Harvey for most of the show/film.

A pookah is a mischevous spirit. Fits I think.
