Hi Aikaterine! So excited that we are reading this cozy gem of a classic! Stave I
I really love the way Charles Dickens approaches the story telling, with its humor but also with moral depth. One of the parts that really struck me was the reason that Marley's ghost gave Scrooge about why he was walking the earth:
“'It is required of every man,' the Ghost returned, 'that the spirit within him should walk abroad among his fellow-men, and travel far and wide; and, if that spirit goes not forth in life, it is condemned to do so after death. It is doomed to wander through the world—oh, woe is me!—and witness what it cannot share, but might have shared on earth, and turned to happiness!'
”
Loving it so far.
Hi rther! It is truly exciting to be reading a classic! It has certainly been awhile.Stave I, complete and I’m hooked! The writing style took me a second to feel comfortable with, but now I’m utterly invested to finally be reading the original story I’ve seen being remade over and over.
Hello @aikaterine! That's great! I really liked the second Stave with the Spirit of the Past! It was profound. I just finished the third Stave and I was surprised at how the Ghost brought up Scrooge's own remarks about the poor. That was tough to swallow. There are still some parts that I haven't really understood. But the overall idea has been impactful.
