New Year's traditions focus on luck, renewal, and celebration, including fireworks, singing "Auld Lang Syne," watching the Times Square ball drop.

Resolutions, plus global customs like Spain's 12 grapes, Scotland's Hogmanay, Brazil's white clothes for peace, and Mexico's empty suitcase stroll for travel.

Many rituals involve food (pork, greens), cleaning, making noise (pots, firecrackers), and specific actions at midnight (kissing, opening doors) to banish bad luck and welcome prosperity.

What traditions do you like to honor with the New Year?

The resolution for getting back to reading is often one to try for.
Please share which traditions you enjoy and what reads you plan on delving into to start your New Year with?

Melanie Anton | 538 comments I usually watch Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen ring in the New Year on CNN. One year they interviewed John Mayer who was sitting surrounded by cats in a cat cafe and Anderson couldn't stop laughing. I thought, that's what I want to do - ring in the New Year in a cat cafe! I don't think the ones we have here are open then.

Good question about what reads we are planning on starting the New Year with. I have to think about that and look at my TBR pile.

In the last year or so I read half of Vanity Fair and then I set it down to read other books. I've decided that I'm going to start it again in the New Year. I'm looking forward to it!

The Prairie by James Fenimore Cooper
It is a Heritage Press Published book with slipcover. It is pretty large almost coffee table size.

It's a shame the cover is missing from the link. It is a beautiful book.
I will probably read an Agatha book too. Thank you Melanie for asking.

Luís (blue_78) | 4963 comments I started Martin Chuzzlewit yesterday for this year's festive season. It would fix, I think.
