Next year's year long read is U.S.A. and the first book of the trilogy is available right now as Audible Play (free) if you have membership.

I wonder if we should do two annual reads per year with the decreasing page account. Any comments or thoughts.

Jenna | 272 comments I would be fine with doubling up. If there are some about to complete in the next 5-7 years doing it this way, that totally makes sense, of course I'm newer so I have read many fewer of the long books than others so its mostly open for me. But in one of the threads it sounded like maybe there are others that people have missed along the way, so is there any interest in circling back earlier than 2033? Maybe choosing amongst those people have not read the way we do for the quarterly reads?

My 2 cents. Many of these books we have read as quarterly reads. We could expand page count for quarterlies. Here is a list of the past quarterly reads. I am fine with whatever the group wants though.

2012
Don Quixote, by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra
Middlemarch, by George Eliot
The Swarm, by Frank Schätzing
War and Peace, by Leo Tolstoy

2013
Cryptonomicon, by Neal Stephenson
Les Misérables, by Victor Hugo
The Arabian Nights, by Anonymous (and can you blame them?)
1Q84, by Haruki Murakami

2014
Kristin Lavransdatter, by Sigrid Undset
Martin Chuzzlewit, by Charles Dickens
The Good Soldier Švejk, by Jaroslav Hašek
The Forsyte Saga, by John Galsworthy

2015
2666, by Roberto Bolaño
Ulysses, by James Joyce
A Suitable Boy, by Vikram Seth
Nicholas Nickleby, by Charles Dickens

2016
Cloudsplitter, by Russell Banks - Discussion questions are here
House of Leaves, by Mark Z. Danielewski - discussion questions are here
Anna Karenina, by Leo Tolstoy - discussion questions are here
The Brothers Karamazov, by Fyodor Dostoyevsky - discussion questions are here (less)

2017
The Idiot
Infinite Jest
Lord of the Rings
Bleak House

Gail (gailifer) | 2279 comments I find it is not always, strictly speaking, about page count. Clarissa could easily have taken two years for example, it was so slow going for me. I would be okay with more a year in general. I have read very few of the longer books so I have a lot of catching up to do.

Some read as quarterly reads should never have been as it kept people from succeeding at reading them. At least that is true for me.

I think a person could pair them if they are 1000 pages or so and that gives people choices because many have read some of these but not all have read them all. Except Amanda maybe!!!!
