Could it be the danger.com series by Jordan Cray? The first book is Gemini7.Edit: the ski cabin one might be Shiver.

There's also a scene elsewhere in the book (or a different book in the series) where the main character is detained (either by police or some security service) and he escapes by wrapping a paperclip around an electrical plug and shorting out the circuit.
This series was published somewhere between 1995 and 2005, which is about when I read it. The covers were entirely black across the whole series and each book in the series had its title and subtitle in a different color from the other books.
The particular plot mentioned in the topic title belonged to (I believe) book 3 or 4 in the series (I could be wrong), and the text color for the title/subtitle on the cover was yellow.
I specifically remember seeing some of the books available for purchase in a Waldenbooks, so it almost certainly wasn't a small printing or obscure publisher. Printed in English, published in the US, and I believe the stories were all set in the US.
I could be mistaken about it being targeted at young adult readers, but the main character(s) were definitely teenagers, and hacking was a key theme across the whole series.
It's definitely not Stine's Fear Street, Greenland's The Specialists, Deaver's Blue Nowhere, Pike's Slumber Party, Sandford's The Kidd series, Ciencin's Lurker Files, Gresh & Wienberg's Termination Node, anything by Neal Stephenson, Wild's Hacker series, or Bischoff's Hackers movie novelization. (I've been looking for a while and those are all the titles that have come up in the process of trying to hunt this down.)
