Booknblues | 12853 comments I'm generally quite clueless about movies coming out, but I just watched the trailer for The Sheep Detectives which is based on Three Bags Full.

So cute!

I MUST SEE THIS! Some of you know I grew up on a sheep farm. I loved the book and was planning to read the next one.

It looks so fun and yes it is a great cast.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 13161 comments I am not much of a theater patron, just because it is so hard for me to sit still for long. However, I am showing it to my daughter when she gets home tonight and telling her that is what we are doing Mother's Day!

Hugh Jackman was the perfect choice!

BC, maybe we could meet up at a theater between our homes?

The cast includes Emma Thompson, Patrick Stewart, Bryan Cranston, and more. The original book was written in German, which is interesting because the plot includes details from Hamlet and it seems the film is set in England.

KateNZ | 4383 comments OMG that is hilarious. Roll on Mothers Day!

It's a date! I never realized it was originally written in German ... I read it a couple of years ago.

Booknblues | 12853 comments I read it a some years ago, but as I recall it was set in England.

Whoops, looking it up, I find that it is set in the fictional, cozy, rural Irish village of Glennkill

Theresa | 16573 comments And I think I am the one who introduced all of you to it. I read it a very long time ago, and even have a CD of it being read -- I think it is a CD and not a cassette tape! I read it again after joining PBT - in 2022 for a challenge.

I've yet to read the sequel -- I spent years watching for a 2nd .... and I kind of want to savor the fact that there is one!

There's a giveaway at the moment for Three Bags Full (Sheep Detective Story, #1) by Leonie Swann , and this is the cover I read.

Robin P | 6376 comments I read it sometime before I was on GR, it was entered back in 2011 when I joined and put in books from various paper lists. But it's sort of a specialized taste - I didn't know many people then who would appreciate it.

Friends I recommended it to when I first read it were less than enthused, thought it silly and stupid. I stopped recommending it for a long time. Then I joined PBT. Obviously it appealed to you with your sheep background, and for me it was the detective thriller/sheep connection which of course ties to my farm background.

Booknblues | 12853 comments Between being a farm girl, a animal lover and a preschool teacher, I appreciate anthropomorphic animals, and it's a mystery to boot, so of course I loved it. I read it in 2013.

I love the idea of it being made into a movie and a great cast just makes it more fun.

KateNZ | 4383 comments It does look like a good one for Small, JoAnne!

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 1923 comments I loved that book. It is on my keeper shelves and I recommend it all the time to people who like quirky mysteries.

LibraryCin | 12067 comments I don't think I knew there was a sequel. Going on memory from years ago, I think I rated it 3 stars (ok), but maybe I'll look again, then decide if I want to try the sequel, as well.

I'm not sure it would work for kids, there's a whole scene reenacting Shakespeare, for instance, which they wouldn't get. Plus a death in a mystery doesn't faze us adult mystery readers but might bother a child. In this case, the victim is a good guy (not a spoiler, that was in the trailer)

In the trailer, it seems like Hugh Jackman as the shepherd bursts into song - is this a musical with singing sheep? That would be even better!
