Since many of you are new to Goodreads, this is a thread to explain the navigation around here. Personally, I think of Goodreads as a social network where books have identities on par with the users. I also think of it as a human-made card catalog. Search for any title, subject, or author, and not only will you find a list of books, you'll find other people's impressions of them. I think it's a much better research tool than Wikipedia.

Because I'm a little obsessive-compulsive, I love it when book recommendations include the link to the book. Goodreads makes that easy by allowing you to put the codes right into your post. Here are the steps to do that:

1. Click on the highlighted words "add book/author" at the upper right of the box you're typing in.

2. Type in the title of the book you want and click "Search."

3. A list of books with their covers will come up. At the very bottom of the list will be two choices: "link" or "cover." Choose the one you want. I usually choose link to go in the middle of text and cover to go at the bottom of a post.

4. The author tab will be right next to the book tab. The author of the book you've chosen will come up, so that makes things easy. The choices at the bottom are "link" or "photo."

That's all for now. Any questions?
