Destiny : The Collapse discussion

The Guardians are the characters of Destiny. They are a standing army of specialized soldiers tasked with the defense of the last city on Earth. They are also responsible for exploring the remnants of human civilization abandoned throughout the solar system and investigating the remains of their Golden Age.

Guardians wage a vicious armed conflict against a myriad of extraterrestrial species who pose an immediate threat to the survival of humanity. The greatest source of the Guardian's power lies in their ability to harness the energy of The Traveler and use it as a weapon against their opponents. Guardians also have access to a Ghost, an artificially intelligent flying robot that can assist the Guardian in tactical situations.

When creating their character, players may choose to make their Guardian one of three species. Species is a purely cosmetic choice for players, affecting only appearance and not gameplay.

Human

Humans originated on Earth, but everything changed when they discovered the Traveler during an expedition to Mars. The Traveler's arrival heralded the start of humanity's Golden Age, a period of prosperity with medical and technological advancements that allowed humans to colonize much of the solar system, triple their lifespan, and even create a sapient race of machines called the Exo.

The Golden Age did not last, however, and a century after it began, an ancient enemy of the Traveler, dubbed the Darkness, nearly eradicated humanity, and all of their settlements across the Solar System were completely lost. The remaining members of humanity fled back to their native planet and were saved by the Traveler, which sacrificed itself to stop this enemy.

Exo

Exo began as self-aware war machines developed by humanity during the Golden Age for a long forgotten war, with the sole purpose of protecting their creators. They were rebooted during the Collapse and now have no memory of their original function. Exos are "so advanced that nothing short of a Ghost can understand their inner functions. They remain ciphers, even to themselves; their origins and purpose lost to time. Whoever built the Exos fashioned them in humanity's image, gifting them with diversity of mind and body. Many of the City's Exo citizens live and work alongside their organic brethren, while others fight again, reforged in the Light of the Traveler to serve as Guardians."

Awoken

The Awoken are a bluish-gray-skinned player species in Destiny. They are descendants of Humans who, during the Collapse, tried to run to the far edges of known space to escape The Darkness. Something mysterious and strange happened to them at the edge of Human-controlled space, which altered them forever. Many of the Awoken live in The Reef, but others also live on Earth. Earth-born Awoken who adventure to The Reef often go unwelcomed by the Queen as outsiders.

Guardians choose to play as one of three different classes. Though each player class in Destiny has a distinct appearance, dress, and skill set, player classes are designed to be balanced, with no class intended to be clearly better overall than any other. A player may choose to be any class, regardless of species, but each class can only access certain armor, subclasses, and abilities. Weapons are not class-restricted; any class can use any weapon.

Hunter: "Hunters once prowled the wilderness and wastelands, taking big risks for even bigger rewards. You're no outlaw—at least, not anymore—but making your own luck has always meant bending the rules."

Titan: "You hail from a long line of heroes, forged from strength and sacrifice. Our enemies may be deadly and merciless, but so are you."

Warlock: "Warlocks have long studied the Traveler, mastering some of its arcane energies. Its true purpose still remains a great mystery, but discovering truth has always driven you into the unknown."

Any species may choose to be any player class.
