Merry Christmas to all of you Christians. Happy Holidays and Winterfair to the rest:

Here's a game for you to celebrate with, for this holiday season and forever!

Take the very first line of the book you are reading (or have read), then add: And then dragons appeared. (The book does not have to be fantasy. Sometimes other genres are way funnier).

Be sure to credit the book and the author. Links to the book would be nice if you have time.

To further the fun, once someone comments with "And then dragons appeared" tell us why you think the dragons showed up!

And thanks to the Epic Fantasy Group for letting me steal the game. (Apparently their thieves stole it from somewhere else . . . )

Example:

THOUGH brilliantly sunny, Saturday morning was overcoat weather again, not just topcoat weather, as it had been all week and as everyone had hoped it would stay for the big weekend—the weekend of the Yale game. And then dragons appeared . . .

Franny and Zooey by J.D. Salinger

An alternative reality Harvard has opened a portal for its dragons, thus starting its takeover of this reality's Ivy League by eliminating the Princeton and Yale students, faculty and alumni.

(Note: Franny and Zooey does not specify where the Ivy League game is happening, so I have selected by reading between the lines.)

I'll cheat a little - I finished the book, but right now I'm writing its review, so it is at hand (or on the screen). The book is in Ukrainian, so I translated the 1st line:

The minibus slowed down, pulled over to the moonlit roadside, crunched on the ice of frozen puddles, and stopped. And then dragons appeared. They were surprised, for the start doesn't look as it belongs to fantasy and it is cold. The driver was surprised as well, but didn't show it. After all, everyone is a potential client

Good one. I like the translation. Very picturesque.

Rebecca | 464 comments “The transformation occurred at approximately 2:23AM PST, and then dragons appeared!” Not many people noticed this huge, fundamental shift in our reality at first in the Americas, since they were all asleep, but folks in Asia, Europe, and Africa got a front row seat to the start of the dragon takeover of Earth.

This is the first line of Dungeon Crawler Carl (sorry on my phone so no link) and pretty nicely fits with the draconic invasion. I like Acorn’s better 😆

Rebecca, I have read Dungeon Crawler Carl book one, and I'm sure there are many great places for dragons to appear in that series. (And they probably do.). Good choice.

Ed Erwin | 923 comments "Do you reckon Tom Sawyer was satisfied after all them adventures? I mean the adventures we had down the river, and the time we set the darky Jim free and Tom got shot in the leg. No, he wasn’t. It only just p’isoned him for more. That was all the effect it had. You see, when we three came back up the river in glory, as you may say, from that long travel, and the village received us with a torchlight procession and speeches, and everybody hurrah’d and shouted, it made us heroes, and that was what Tom Sawyer had always been hankering to be. And then the Dragons appeared." (from Tom Sawyer Abroad)
