Pages: 416 pages

Length: 1 month (January)

Participants: LinaVer, D.L.

Everyone reads at their own pace during a Buddy Read. Because participants can be at different parts of the book at different times, it is extremely important to mark spoilers so that the book is not ruined for someone who is not as far along as others!!!

Mark spoilers by placing {spoiler} before the text and {/spoiler} after the text but use the < and > instead of the { and }.

Here are some questions to help get the conversation started! Feel free to look up discussion questions specific to this book or come up with your own. Just make sure any questions that contain spoilers are under spoiler tags.
Discussion questions are not required but may be a fun way to talk about the book and get to know each other!

Prior to starting:
What prompted you to join this buddy read?
Have you read this author before? What do you think of their other books?

Mid-read:
What character or ideas do you relate to the most and why?
Do you have any favorite quotes or scenes?

After reading:
What was enjoyable or not-so-enjoyable about this book?
Did this book change your perception about anything, either within the book (character development) or in real life?

LinaVer | 570 comments D.L., thank you for joining me in reading this book! I am now reading a different book and have one more buddy read coming up, so I’ll probably start this one in the middle of January. But I am quite excited for it. I found it in my street’s free library, the blurb is interesting. I’ve never read anything from this author before though.

Edit:
never mind, I have finished the other book much faster than I thought, and I still have a bit more free time because we work less during the festive period, so I have started reading Vanished this morning!

I am on page 30 only. The story seems interesting so far, I am just not sure yet if I like the writing style. The best I can describe it, is “matter-of-fact” but then with some lyrical flourishes. I’ve never read anything by this author before, I think, so I might just need to read a bit further to get used to her style.

The book has author’s photo on the back cover, and she’s wearing a very 80s style outfit with big shoulder pads, what a blast from the past, but I love it, looks fierce.

LinaVer | 570 comments On page 182 now. (view spoiler) Also, I got quite into the book, but the writing style still feels a bit strange to me, idk why.

D.L. | 1584 comments D.S.'s writing style involves a lot of exposition (telling rather than showing). She spins a good story, but it doesn't flow smoothly sometimes.

I will start this in the morning.

Thank you for sharing this, I didn’t know it was a thing for all her books. And it describes perfectly what I was thinking (I just couldn’t put it into the right words).

I’ve finished the book yesterday, the last couple of hundred pages flew by because the story got all intense and all the secrets were coming out. I did like the story, although I predicted how it’s going to end pretty much in the beginning. I gave the book 3 stars.

I am open to giving another book from this author a try further into the year. Could you recommend one where her writing style flows somewhat better?
