After completing discussions of Indulgence In Death in May, we will continue our Buddy Read of the In Death series with the novella, Possession in Death which appears in the Anthology The Other Side. It's also available on audio.

A dying Romanian woman's words send a chill down Lieutenant Eve Dallas' spine. And soon Eve notices some interesting side-effects: visions of the deceased and even fluency in Russian.

Against her better judgment, Eve is convinced the spirit of the old woman is inside her, unable to rest until she's found her great-granddaughter who vanished two months ago. Desperate to be back to normal, Eve realises a string of young women have gone missing, and if Eve doesn't find them, no one will.

I don't think I read this one.

This is my most favorite of all the novellas. I highly recommend reading it as soon as you're finished with Indulgence as there's a good reason to do so:)

You can buy this one as a two-in-one with the Novella "Chaos in Death". I am up to #15 in my re-read, but looking forward to getting to this one :)

I opened this thread since I knew we'd get to it in May...but no, not until after our read & discussion of Indulgence. I haven't even started my reread of Indulgence yet. :)

Has anyone started Possession yet? I'll be reading it in the next few days.

I have, I had the audiobook and finished yesterday.

I love this one!! I always wished it was a full length novel.

This is my second favorite of the novellas.

I finished. It was the first time I read this one and I love it.

My great grandmother was born at home (like most children at that time. She was born with a caul and had "special gifts" to see events before they happen. Also my great grandfather was a merchant marine and having her caul with him was believed to protect the ship from sinking. I guess it worked.

Anyway there are a couple scenes in this book that reminded me of her.

I have great stories about her. I was sick as a child and before she died she promised my mother she would watch over me. I think she does.

It is one of those books where we know who the bad guy is from the get, so maybe that was it. I think for me, besides one of the ickiest bad guy at least at that point in the series, it is where I first saw Eve really show love for Mira.

I'm still in the beginning stages. I love that all this hocus locus always happen to Eve and she denies it so vehemently.

Also loved that this book picks up the next day from indulgence. Was a bit disappointed that we didn't go to the BBQ at her house. Always get this big smile when I read Denis Mira's name.

Denis Mira is such a wonderful character. I love his insight and his compassion. I also loves his quirks, it just makes him more adorable.

Just loved it. Almost wished some of the gifts stayed with her. But then she has her dreams about them so maybe not. And as she said what would be the point.

I love this one, Michelle - although I haven't finished my reread yet. I haven't had any reading time at all as my husband has been very ill & I've been going to the specialists with him. And then, last week, my sister had a heart attack. It's been a bad couple of weeks here. Hopefully, things will get back to normal soon! :)

I'll get the next book posted in a day or so...I believe we're up to Treachery in Death!

Oh no Sandra. All of the best for you and your family. I'll keep you in my prayers. And knowing a little bit about being scattered with family illness, do take time for yourself. 5 minutes of just breathing slowly and resting is just as important as being there for those you love.

I finished Possession sitting in a dr. waiting room today. I love this one although it seems very short. It's always fun when Eve & anything "witchy" like collide. Interesting seeing her while she is "possessed", & that she didn't even realize that she was participating & agreeing to a blood oath. Loved that Roarke knew immediately that something was wrong with or about her, loved that she now trusts him enough to tell him what happened & that he believes her, & that Eve actually sees "ghosts or spirits or whatever" in this one...and talks to them. I felt her scenes of talking to the dead were very emotional...she felt their pain. But then, our Eve always feels the pain of victims, though not always in this particular way. LOL when Even spouts Russian/or Hungarian at Summerset. Enjoyed her scene with Gallahad when he refuses to get in her lap as he senses something different about her. Let's see, what else...loved the BBQ, of course...Eve with Bella & Eve being left momentarily with the grill! lol Love that Eve now accepts that she is okay with things like this gathering of friends.

One more thing: LOVE Roarke saying I love you in Russian! Love you back, Roarke!! ;)

I like all of those things too Sandra. Let me add Morris' comment that he wants to discuss this with her sometime. I felt that he wants to know that Amaryllis is ok. I hope we revisit this discussion in a future book.

I also like when Eve said she wanted to work from home because she didn't want any of the cops to see her talking to the dead.

Lets just I say I loved the whole book. Lol.
I found it interesting that Peabody didn't have a glue what was going on with Eve. Her with all her Free ageism. But yes Roarke realising and excepting was so Roarke. And then being by her side and never once taking the mickey out of her. I would have been so tempted at some point to have made a comment.
This book was short and had just enough of everything. Even had me almost wishing this had been a little bit longer just so I could enjoy Eve in this state. But that was for 5 mins or so and that would have been a whole other series. Lol.

Oh yeah, Sharon...I meant to mention Morris & his comment. I think that would/will be a very emotional, interesting conversation if it occurs. I love Morris & am proud of him for the way he is surviving, one day at a time, but making progress. My heart still hurts for him.

I believe it can be possible.

I believe that there are people able to connect to something I can't see or comprehend. If I can believe in guardian angels then to me , it can expand to the fact that some of those who have gone before me is looking after me or those they loved.

I believe. I think the 800-psychic numbers highlight the scams but there are many things I've experienced that can't be explained using the rational mind.

I do believe there are some people who can see, feel and hear things that most of us can't. I also think most people who claim to be psychic are not, how to tell which are real and which are scammers is the question.
I had an interesting experience the 2nd Christmas after my younger sister passed. That Xmas Eve I really missed her and cried off and on during the day, I had such a strong "feeling" of her. On Christmas morning as we were opening gifts we discovered that my Grandma had written my sister's name on every gift she purchased for my daughter. Call me crazy I am certain my sister was around us somehow/way that Christmas Eve and my Grandma and I subconsciously felt her.
