Read this series when it came out and it is definitely an amazing series! Love the books, love the movies, LOVE it all!!

A good book for those who like fast-paced, dystopian novels. Katniss is a strong heroine, though I wish Peeta would man up a bit.

I read all three books, but I must be getting tired of the whole dystopian scene. I didn't like the books as much as I did the Harry Potter books.

One of my favorite book series

I'm in the mood for debate/discussion and this series is one of the few that's pretty fresh in my mind. I'll use spoiler tags just in case there's anyone browsing who hasn't read...

So anywhey, the whole main starting point of this series is Katniss volunteering to take part in the Hunger Games on behalf of her sister.

If memory serves right, she's (one of?) the only volunteer to come out of District 12. Obviously it's pretty much a suicide mission, which is why no one has volunteered before (or very few, I can't quite remember).

So I guess that's wherein my question/discussion lies. Why is Katniss the first? What makes her different from the others, who aren't willing to sacrifice themselves for siblings/loved ones/etc? Think it was just a cheap plot point, or do you think there's solid reasoning behind it? Indulge my need for discussion! (hide spoiler)]

Especially after, what, 74 years from the first one? I feel like the humanity of people trumps over the survival instinct.

Do you think instead of using a cheap plot device she could've done something different? Just had Katniss's name pulled? Changed the circumstances of the Seam so it's more believable that no one had volunteered before?

I mean I see why it was done. She wanted the reader to empathize with Katniss. If you saw your little sibling lined up for the slaughter most people would try to go in their stead. And then you know, instantly we (as readers) feel for Katniss. Was there a better, more believable way to go about this?

What I think about this is that the first book was FIRE (no pun intended). But the second book, was a bit flat and the last book made me feel like dying in a corner... yeah, to be honest, just read book one, and maybe two.

Liked this series and liked the movies. It was sad in the last one but also ended well. I suppose it is like life - highs and lows!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... Only Book One for me... I reread it so many times. I think I like the author's style in One is better than in the rest of the book... But that is my opinion...

That's cool. I liked all of them but everyone thinks differently so that's fine.

That's a hard question. I think the first one or the second one. The third one was a little but disappointing

I believe that Suzanne Collins should right a series in Haymitch's perspective and his Game experience.

I was thinking that we could know what Haymitch* was thinking about the girl he teamed up with. WAS HE IN LOVE? IS THAT WHY HE DIDN'T MARRY ANYONE? So many unanswered questions.

Yeah there's a ton of things about him that we'll never know.

Personally, I want to know why he started drinking...

It mentioned that the mentors for the games do stuff to keep themselves occupied with all the lost tributes that where under their care... but it seems to me that Haymitch was drinking even before coaching...

Who knows... Maybe it was... it's the Capitol...no one can be sure for sure...

I loved the series. I love how kick butt Katniss is and how the romance between her and Peeta was not the main focus of the series. A favorite

I'm not a fan of Gale though. I'm team Peeta

I actually prefered Gale over Peeta. So the way it ended bugged me lol

Really good book, though I was a tad disappointed in the movie.
