Just read it and really liked it. Can't wait for the sequel. Its actually a prequel, but I'm sure there must be a third boo k eventually.
In general I'm not a fan of prequels, I want to know what happens to the characters after the book, not what happens before. :DPlanning to read this one, but I don't think I will have him fast enough for the group read.
I checked Graceling out at the library recently and read it in about a day or two and would definitely be willing to buy it. Its the kind of book I could read multiple times I enjoyed it so much. I'd heard about the prequel Fire and am checking it out at the library next but am disappointed to hear it wasn't as good (although I expected not to enjoy as much as Graceling either b/c I'm not much of a prequel kind of person myself) I am however stoked to hear about a sequel following Bitterblue, she seems like a strong female lead character as well. I also have had suspicions that she will be a Graceling and would like to see if those suspicions are correct. I am kind of sad also b/c I would've liked the series to continue to follow the original character. Does anyone know if there's a date set for when the sequel is to be released?-Amy Sue

im reading fire right now. its taking me longer to read than Graceling- i love it, but not as much as Graceling. i can't wait for Bitterblue!
I just finished and really enjoyed it but I was hoping Po and Katsa had gotten married (it's the hopeless romantic in me). I listened to the book on my mp3 but I plan on buying it and re-reading it in the future.
I loved Graceling (one of my absolute faves in 09). I even bought this book for my niece for Christmas. I haven't read Fire, but will pick it up when it comes out in paperback (I'm not sure it's worth the buy on hardcover and I don't have a library here).
Okay, I really enjoyed this book and every one of the characters and I was gearing up to pick up Fire and read on about them. Then I read the back cover and realized it's not the sequel but an accompanimnet! ?!?!?! So, it's a whole other story! I am totally bummed about this!I loved Katsa. Her confidence and aboslute stoicism in the beginning and watching her change throughout the story was so intriguing to read. Bitterblue was a refreshing addition to the ensemble of characters and Po was a revelation for me. I loved that he was sort of the female in his relationship with Katsa. It was such a nice touch and made me really adore him. Overall, I thought the entire concept of the book was incredibly original and very interesting. I truly enjoyed reading this and really wish there was a sequel to it...
Looks like I'm a oddity. I thought this book was just ok. There were interesting parts and then lulls. I did like that Katsa is so confident and I love me some bloodshed but she wasn't someone I connected with. Maybe because we are so alike and would butt heads if we meet. With all that aside I thought Po made the book interesting for me. I'm not sure if I'll continue on.
Most people thought it was a good book. I thought it could of been stronger. There were too many boring parts.
i didnt think so...i think its kind of fascinating the way 2 people can have such diverse opinions about only one book
I first picked up Fire and really liked the prologue but then it got to Fire and friends and they are such an eyeroll! I found her so annoying "why oh why was I cursed with such beauty!" not to mention her annoyingly overbearing friend Archer(?), clingy much? Then I saw Graceling on the table at my friends house and decided to pick it up (because of the prologue of Fire) and I really liked it! Remember when you found out Po was blind? I realised just as Katsa did - what a surprise!
Now I am reconsidering Fire - does it get better later? I only read the first few chapters but the characters were a bit much for me.
I do usually seem like the odd ball with these books. The book just didn't grab me like others have. Maybe it will be a good read for me at another time.
I read this and really enjoyed it. I wanted more of these characters who I really enjoyed so decided not to read Fire right now.
After being notified of your post here via email Shelli I looked at what I posted in NOV 09 here and had to laugh! I said I would have to go get it at the library cause the reviews were mixed on this book. HA! I read Graceling in DEC 10 and loved every part of it and bought the book copy and a copy for my NOOK! Crazy!

Nevertheless, this is a YA book, so I think that portraying Katsa as a strong, independent female presents a better role model for young girls today. Had this book been intended for an adult audience I think it may have ended a little differently. Either way it was a great story, and I really enjoyed reading about the progression of Katsa and Po's relationship, and how he helped her to discover the good things about herself and shed the "killer" label.
I finished last night and loved it.....it was definitely a page turner for me and I will absolutely be reading Fire. I am disappointed that Katsa and Po are not in Fire, but am still looking forward to it based purely on the writing and Cashore's ability to whip up an interesting, creative and page-turning story. The love interest between Katsa and Po was definitely good, but just as good were all of the other relationships.....all different levels of complexity. Great read!
You know what kind of surprised me.......I was shocked when Katsa killed Leck so quickly. I thought for sure that he was going to gain control of her and the book would end in a cliffhanger leading into the next book of how Katsa and Po somehow reunite and fight the evil Leck. Oh well, I'm still glad the lecherous piece of crap is dead.
That scene surprised me to Kerri but brought a smile to my face. Katsa was such a strong willed young woman all it took was a glimmer of doubt about Leck for her to right the situation. You learn a lot more about Leck's past and where the scum comes from in Fire. Fire felt more like a strong character building story for the rest of the series. It is still good but I know its a foreshadowing to an even better story as the characters may eventually merge or fight as one or against each other. Something big is brewing in The Seven Kingdoms.....love it!
