Ted Rohe (vangelicmonk) | 7 comments Hi,

I'm not a practicing Anglican, but I was Baptised in the Episcopal church as a child. I'm more of the non-denominational type. However, I appreciate the Anglican faith for what it brings to Protestantism and to the body of Christ. So am I cool to be iin this group?

-Ted.

James | 46 comments Hola Ted. No worries. I'm a Presby...I think...heh so non-denom is cool. Welcome and God bless you. What kinda books have you been reading these days?

Ted Rohe (vangelicmonk) | 7 comments Mostly Church history as I'm taking a Church History course through seminary. Main book is Roger Olsens "The Story of Christian Theology." On the fiction side I'm working my way through Umberto Echo's "The Island of the Day Before." Those are the two of 5 or 6 off the top of my head. :)

Poppy Hi, Ted--so you're a seminarian--cool! I think about going to seminary, but I always talk myself out of it, since first of all, I was ABD for years and never ended up finishing my diss., and second, really, the last thing the Episcopal church needs is another middle-aged broad trying to get ordained. ;-)

Skylar Burris (skylarburris) | 134 comments The only Echo book I've read is "Name of the Rose," and that was quite some time ago, but I liked it. I very breifly considered seminary (I was Baptist at the time), but realized I wasn't called. I did take Greek as preperation, however, and I did very well in the class, but now I can't even say the alphabet.

Ted Rohe (vangelicmonk) | 7 comments This is my first stab at Eco's work. I picked this book particularly because of my unheatlhy fascination with a little tv show called LOST (see my other group). :) Good story so far. I have seen the movie "Name of the Rose" but not read the book. I liked the movie.

I'm not a full MDiv student, but a M.A. major in the Divnity School. M.A. in English Bible (essentially focused on Bible understanding and teaching-I'm taking it online).

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome and comments.

Karen L. Hi "Reading Recluse" What should we call you (name)? Can you tell us about your faith background? Thanks for your book recommendations on the "Anglican Lit" discussion thread. God Bless :)

Skylar Burris (skylarburris) | 134 comments I'm obssessed with Lost too, Vangelicmonk. Nice to have the company. I saw the Lost group, but I'm not planning to read everything that's been mentioned on the show, so...I didn't join. So, have you read Our Mutual Friend yet?

Karen:
For twenty-five years I have been one or another subspecies of Anglican.

Karen L. R.R.:
Wow 25 years! I have been Anglican for about 15 years. My husband and I were raised R.C., went to a presbyterian youth group, then followed the Youth Pastor to a non denominational church for at least a decade. Eventually in our search for something that would not change, would transcended time, yet not going for the latter R.C. distortions about Mary and the Saints, of course ending up in the episcopal church- the via media.(Yet I still appreciate the R.C. church and the strong moral truths they speak to our culture) We were so drawn to the Eucharist and the beautiful liturgy. C.S. Lewis describes it as a dance that one becomes so familiar with. As converts we are really into it.
